Texas Walleye Association Championship Results
Anglers from six states including Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, and Florida gathered at Lake Meredith on June 28-29 for the final Texas Walleye Association tournament to determine the qualifiers for the 2004 Cabela’s National Team Tournament. It was a perfect time for the TWA Championship as the majority of the teams brought in five fish limits each day.
The team of Jim Welch of Fritch and Don Tolleson of Florida claimed the $600 1st place prize on day one with 9.74 lbs. and the $180 big fish pot with a 3.4 lb. walleye. They caught their fish jigging deep in 32-42 feet of water. Second place and $270 went to Donnie Bell and Loyd Griswold of Fritch with 9.3 lbs. Third place and $165 went to J.D. Carr and Reggie Gerstner of Fritch with 7.77 lbs. On day two, the deep bite went cold as the first three places all came from the shallower mid-lake humps.
Jeff Alexander of Fritch and Ron Alexander of Kansas claimed the $600 1st place prize with 9.05 lbs. and the $180 big fish pot with a 3.62 lb. walleye. Second place and $270 went to Kevin and Kalin Audrain of Fritch with 8.09 lbs. Third place and $165 went again to the Carr/Gerstner Team with 7.18 lbs.
The overall two day winner of $1000 based on total weight went to the team of Jeff and Ron Alexander with 15.84 lbs. Cumulative season point totals are used for the invitations to Cabela’s National Team Tournament which will be issued soon to a yet undetermined number of the following top teams.
