Marolt and Smith win Fresno Challenge
HAVRE – Ferdinand Marolt and Reg Smith rode a good first-day catch of 11.6 pounds and added 7.79 pounds the second day to win the Fresno Challenge Walleye Tournament on May
18-19.
Marolt and Smith totaled 19.39 pounds to claim the top prize of $2,000 and edge Dale Hawks and Don Wolf, who took runnerup honors with 19.2 pounds for $900.
Smith and Marolt weighed in the biggest walleye of the tournament at 4.26 pounds on the first day. On the second day, Hawks and Wolf got the biggest of the day and the
second-largest of the tournament at 4.1 pounds.
A total of 65 teams took part in the first circuit tournament of the year. The next circuit event will be out of Rock Creek Marina on Fort Peck Reservoir on June 9-10.
Money-winners in the tournament were:
1. Ferdinand Marolt and Reg Smith, 19.39 pounds, $2,000.
2. Dale Hawks and Don Wolf, 19.2, $900.
3. Lori and Dick Allran, 17.34, $625.
4. Robert Martin and Chuck Lawston, 16.26, $475.
5. Jim Sinclair and Larry Petersen, 15.86, $400.
6. Doug Rohlf and Kerry Parsons, 15.86, $362.
7. Neil Swartz and Angela Hawks, 15.52, $275.
8. Kevin Brewer and Norman Kerr, 15.51, $225.
9. Craig and Jamie Phalp, 14.98, $180.
10. Glen Briese and Randy Wilke, 14.75, $150.
