WALLEYE ANGLERS TRAIL (W.A.T.) HEADS TO GENOA, WISCONSIN FOR THEIR SECOND TOURNAMENT OF THE SEASON

Genoa, WI-36 Walleye Anglers Trail (W.A.T.) teams fished in a 2 day, 2 man tournament. The 36 teams brought in over 250 walleye to the scales. The winning team weighed over 29 lbs.

Two man teams launched from the Power Plant Ramp on the Mississippi River. Teams fished on Saturday, March 31st from 7:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. and Sunday, April 1st from 7:00a.m. until 2:30p.m.

According to Walleye Anglers Trail, Executive Tournament Director Harry Miller Jr. and Assistant Tournament Director Robert Schmerbach, calm spring like conditions that greeted the tournament fisherman turned into winter during the day Saturday. The changing weather pattern continued into Sunday, where clear skis and breezy conditions slowed down the bite. Local angler's Marc Hinkel from Genoa, WI and Tim Cadd from Stoddard, WI claimed top prize. Weighing 29.56 lbs, for a payday of $1450.00 A complete listing of prizewinners is as follows:

5th Place, 22.36 lbs $ 290.00 Mark Brye, Viroqua, WI -Tom Baye, Westby, WI

6th Place, 17.98 lbs $ 215.00 Roger Reuter, Platteville, WI -Rod Reuter, Platteville, WI

7th Place, 17.68 lbs $ 150.00 Steve Leslin, Dubuque, IA- Tom Mellenkamp, Dubuque, IA

Big fish on Saturday to the team of Jeff Cowell and Mike Gugleelmatt from Rockford, Il, 4.72 lbs, for $280.00, big fish on Sunday to the team of Marc Hinkel, Genoa, WI and Tim Cadd, Stoddard, WI, 7.54 lbs, for $280.00. The team of Hinkel and Cadd total prize money was $1730.00.

The next Walleye Anglers Trail tournament is June 9 - 10, 2001 at Lacrosse, WI, the 7th Street Ramp on the Mississippi River pools 7,8,9. Last year over 30 teams competed in this tournament.

Membership is required to fish in Walleye Angler's Trail events. All Walleye Angler's Trail events are qualifying events for Cabela's National Team Walleye Championship event.
