Illinois Walleye Trail Season Opener
55 teams, from Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana, converged on the city of Henry, for the 2003 Season Opener. The team of Randy Carroll, and Lee Scott, from Oswego, IL, weighed in a 6 fish limit, with a total of 15 pounds and 6.5 ounces, earning them $2400.00, they also captured big fish honors, weighing in a sauger, at 3 pounds 6 ounces, for an additional $550.00. Randy and Lee, caught their fish upstream from Henry, trolling with lead core line, with shad raps.
Placing second place, was Jeff Fore, and Ron Brake, from Petersburg, IL with 6 fish weighing 12 pounds and 10 ounces, earning $1345.00.
Third place honors, was captured by the team of Al Schrofer, and Mike Gibson, from Dyer, IN, with a 4 fish limit, weighing 11 pounds and 8 ounces. They earned $795.00.
12 of the 55 teams, brought limits of fish to the scales. The total field caught 180 fish, weighing 263 pounds. All fish were returned back to the river, alive.
