The Slave Lake & District Chamber of Commerce hosts its Alberta Centennial Celebration on July 1st and 2nd. Slave Lake is located 2.5 hours north of Edmonton, Alberta.
Lesser Slave Lake is 70 miles long and offers an incredible Walleye fishery. This big water lake can see some significant wave action, so the tournament boundary is about 17 miles from the launch and about 10 miles wide. Presently walleye are plentiful and are easily caught. The Anglers Cup regulations state a 51 cm fish is the minimum length that can be brought into the weigh in. A four fish per day limit meets tournament regulations and total weight of 8 fish over the two days puts the Top 30 teams into the money.
Angler Registration is June 30, 2005 at 3:30 pm at the Curling Rink. Anglers and volunteers can enjoy a feast of “Beef on a bun” served Slave Lake style. After which comes the mandatory Rules Meeting.
Fishing starts July 1st with the first flight leaving The Point Marina at 6:00 am. Come and watch the parade of boats leaving The Point Marina and then the big send-off after the National Anthems are played.
Spectators can take part in the casting competition for young and old alike on the Friday and Saturday on the lawn of The Point Steakhouse. Top scorers of this fun event take home great prizes from some of the generous sponsors.
Final weigh-in starts at 3:00 pm for the first flight and the last flight boats’ fish will be weighed by 6:00 pm. Then off to the Curling Rink for an evening of fun including a steak supper and an awesome comedian. On Saturday the flights reverse and leave the marina at 6:00 am. The FINAL weigh-in starts at 1:00 pm on the PolarKraft Stage so come and take in this exciting weigh-in and cheque & boat presentation. Thirty places of paid winners!
The top thirty teams take home some major cash prizes (based on a full field). Sponsor Karl Gongos, representative of Whitecap Motors and Recreation, will present a nice cheque for $10,000.00 to the 4th Place winners. 3rd Place finishers get a $20,000.00 cheque from major sponsor Billy Lukan of the “The Point Steakhouse & Marina”. PolarKraft’s Derwin Repchuk, also a major sponsor of this event will present the 2nd place finishers with a fully rigged Tournament Fishing Boat Package valued at over $35,000.00 and a cheque for $5,000.00.
