2nd Annual Walleye Central Mid-West get together
Sept. 9, 10, and 11, 2005
The weekend started out Friday night with some great conversation at the picnic table, along with some super venison sausage, crackers, and beverages. After the snacks, a great fish fry was put on by the guys that arrived early. Unfortunately, Mel and I didn’t arrive in time for that, but we heard it was fabulous. There were several limits of fish caught on Friday to provide plenty of fillets for the fryer. We will have to schedule an earlier arrival time next year to get in on the “Fry”.
Saturday morning we all hit the water early, most not having fished this body of water, went on a search and catch mission. The guys that had fished on Friday passed the word of a bite going on right out in front of High Banks Resort. We stayed in contact with each other on the marine radios as to what was happening with the bite. Everyone was having pretty good success within a mile of the resort. Many boats came in at the end of the day filled out with “eyes”. All presentations seemed to be taking fish. Mel and I had our greater success on trolling shad raps in about 8-9 feet of water.
The day ended with a great get together at High Banks Resort for a great catered dinner and lots of goodies donated by Scott, Kraig and Marc. Great conversation, some bonding, and lots of good stories were shared.
The next day, Sunday, several of us hit the water again for a morning of fishing. The bite this morning had slowed down quite a bit. We all caught fish, but not in the numbers we had on Saturday. The Sunday weather had turned to a beautiful light breeze, with high skies, much different from the windy Saturday, the “chop” was gone. These conditions seemed to cause the slower bite.
This years event grew by about 300% from last year, and we all had a fantastic time. Next years get together will be at High Banks Resort again, the weekend after Labor Day. Start making plans to join us, a great fishing trip is guaranteed.
A super big thanks to Kim and Rick at High Banks Resort for the great weekend, and to Gosh Dam for a great dinner on Saturday night.
(Don't forget to attend the "Original Get Together" in Vermilion, Ohio on October 21-22. More information is available at: http://www.walleyecentral.com/articles/?a=1141 )
