October 1, 2005-Prairie Du Chien, Wisc.- In dramatic fashion Jim Trow and Scott Aydelotte proved there is no better team in the world when it comes to competitive walleye fishing Thursday. The last team to weigh in, Trow and Scott needed to have over 9lbs of walleyes to overcome Doug Lampan and Jeff Russell. When the scale showed over 11lbs, the crowd roared and Jim Trow and Scott Aydelott were instantly crowned the 2005 World Walleye Champions.
“I can’t hardly say anything right now. I have been fishing for seven years and this is definitely the pinnacle. I really need to let it sink in.” said Aydelotte.
Overcome with emotion Jim Trow of Ames, Iowa was obviously extremely proud of his accomplishment. “My partner really kept me going. Sometimes I get a little tired but he gets me right back in there.” said a teary eyed Trow.
Trow and Aydelotte came in with a three day 14 walleye weight of 36.83 pounds. They were the first day leaders with over 17 pounds and were in second place after the second day of fishing with 24.88 pounds behing Doug Lampen and Jeff Russell.
Doug Lampen and Jeff Russell brought in limits all 3 days to capture 2nd place with a total weight of 34.12lbs.
Doug Newhoff and partner Neil Hammargren of Waterloo Iowa also came in with 3 consecutive limit catches to wrap up third place with 27.66lbs.
Cabela’s Pros Kenny Ludwig and partner Steve Stein of Leavenworth, KS brought in a 3 day total of 13 walleyes weighing 22.01lbs to take fourth place honors.
Rounding out the top 5 walleye teams in the world is the duo of Kevin Byrne of PainField, IL and partner and Walleye Central contributor John Balla of Bartlett IL with a two day total of 6 walleyes weighing 20.11lbs.
