Texas Walleye Association Canton Tournament Results and Lake Meredith
Tournament Scheduled for May 20
The Texas Walleye Association held the third stage
of their 2006 Tournament Trail on Saturday, May 6 with a tournament at Canton
Lake, Oklahoma. What was expected to be a hot bite was severely chilled by a
cold front that hung around for four days! The result was that only one team
could bring a 5 fish limit to the scales. All teams reported catching a
multitude of short fish but only 18 walleye were caught that reached Oklahoma’s
minimum size limit of 18 inches. Several teams reported catching several dozen
fish with none reaching the minmum size limit.
Jeff Cooper and Scott Mansky of Amarillo won the tourney and $560 with an
impressive 5 fish limit weighing13.63 lbs.
James and Stephen Jones of Canton, OK took second
and $ 350 with 2 fish weighing 9.42 lbs. They also took the big fish pot of $140
with a nice 7.29 lb. fish. Third and $210 went to Kevin and Kalin Audrain with 3
fish weighing 6.17 lbs. The rest of the top ten were: 4th Donnie Bell and Arvin
Cowan, Fritch with 2 fish weighing 4.30 lbs:; 5th Hank and Hunter McWilliams
,Fritch with 3.46 lbs; 6th Tim and David Tucker, Canton with 2.92 lbs; 7th Mark
Murphy and Montie McMurphy with 2.37 lbs; 8th David Smith and Pete Paulson of
Claremore, OK with 2.35 lbs; 9th Dan Turner of Dumas and David Turner of
Bristow, OK with 1.96 lbs; and 10th Jim and James Welch of Fritch with 1.65
lbs.
On Saturday, May 20, the TWA returns to Texas and Lake Meredith for the last
one day tournament before the TWA Classic Championship on Meredith on June
10-11. The heaviest weights of the year are expected at the Meredith tournament.
All TWA tournaments are two man team tourneys and leading teams for the season
will receive invitations to the 2007 Cabelas National Team Championship. The TWA
has been given 5 team spots for this years National Championship at Lake Sharpe,
South Dakota. The cost of the Meredith tournament is $100 a team with an
optional $10 big fish pot. The annual TWA membership is $50 per team. Teams can
register at the Meredith Marina from 6 AM to 6:45 AM on Saturday morning or can
pre-register by mail 7 days before the tourney and receive a $10 discount.
The rest of the Texas Walleye Schedule is: June 10-11 the TWA Classic
Championship at Lake Meredith; and June 23-24 Cabela’s National Team
Championship for the 2005 TWA Qualifiers. All anglers are cordially invited to
