TWA Lake Meredith Follow Up Story by Texas Walleye Association

TWA Meredith Winners

Texas Walleye Association Lake Meredith Tournament Results

On Saturday, May 20, the Texas Walleye Association returned to the friendly home waters of Lake Meredith for a one day tournament. A five fish limit did not even insure a top ten finish in this tourney as every team brought a limit to the scales. Equally impressive was that all but two of these fish were successfully released back into the lake. The Texas Walleye Association is encouraging all anglers to release all walleye over 20 inches to insure and improve a quality walleye fishery in Meredith for years to come. Walleye are just as much a sports fish as a bass! The TWA's stance on big fish is, "If you aren't going to mount it, release it! Eat those fish under 20 inches!"

Kevin and Kalin Audrain of Fritch won the tourney and $480 with a whopping 5 fish limit weighing17.80 lbs. They also took the big fish pot of $140 with a nice 4.88 lb. fish. The father/son team of Jim and James Welch of Fritch were a close second with 17.31 lbs. to take home $300. Every fish from these two teams was over 22 inches! Third and $180 went to Jim O'Connor of Amarillo and Ed Rodriguez of Fritch with 14.78 lbs.

The rest of the top ten were: 4th John and Peyton McWilliams of Borger with 14.48 lbs; 5th J. D. Carr and Chuck Weston of Fritch with 14.03 lbs; 6th Donnie Bell and Arvin Cowan of Fritch with 13.67 lbs; 7th Jeff and Ron Alexander of Amarillo with13.24 lbs; 8th Bryan and Kenneth Garrison of Kismet, Ks with 11.67 lbs; 9th Hank and Hunter McWilliams ,Fritch with 8.75 lbs; and 10th Dan Turner of Dumas and David Turner of Bristow, OK with 8.36 lbs.

Fourteen teams have qualified for the TWA Classic Championship on Meredith on June 10-11. These teams will be competing for over $5,000 in prize money and for up to 5 qualifying spots for the 2007 Cabelas National Team Championship. On June 23-24, five TWA teams will be competing for a $50,000 top prize at the 2006 Cabelas National Team Championship at Lake Sharpe, South Dakota. 2006 Cabelas NTC participating TWA teams are: Kevin and Kalin Audrain; J. D. Carr and Ron Alexander; Jim and LaDonna Welch; Dan and David Turner; and Donnie Bell and Mark Murphy.
