Zalewski wins Walleye League Wisconsin event on Petenwell Lake by FLW Walleye League
 

FLW League WinnersARKDALE, Wis. — Boater Gary Zalewski of Roselle, Ill., caught five walleyes that weighed 10 pounds, 13 ounces and earned $6,090 Saturday as winner of the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Wisconsin Division event on Petenwell Lake. The victory placed Zalewski one step closer to qualifying for the Walleye League Finals on the Mississippi River in Moline, Ill., Sept. 13-15. Zalewski’s co-angler, Bradley Ksionek of Wausau, Wis., earned $3,045 for the win.

Zalewski caught the majority of his fish by vertical jigging the second break on main lake points.

Rounding out the top five are boater Rick Writz of Lake Tomahawk, Wis., who earned $3,045, and co-angler Aaron Kersten of Downing, Wis., who earned $1,523 (five walleyes, 10 pounds, 12 ounces); Herbert Stanford of Oregon, Wis., who earned $2,610 plus $300 contingency bonus, and co-angler John Dahl of Wonewoc, Wis., who earned $1,305 (five walleyes, 10 pounds, 6 ounces); Michael Galligan of Oshkosh, Wis., who earned $2,175, and co-angler Raymond Chase of Friendship, Wis., who earned $1,088 (five walleyes, 9 pounds, 12 ounces); and Mike Barfknecht of Baraboo, Wis., who earned $1,740 plus $200 contingency bonus, and co-angler Brian Nett of New Holstein, Wis., who earned $870 (five walleyes, 9 pounds, 11 ounces).

Three FLW Walleye League divisions – Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin – each feature three one-day events during the regular season. Every angler who receives weight credit earns points, with 100 points awarded to the winner, 99 for second, 98 for third, and so on. These points determine angler standings.

The top 35 boaters and 35 co-anglers from each FLW Walleye League division advance to the $116,900 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals, set for Sept. 13-15 on the Mississippi River in Moline, Ill. Anglers finishing in the top 10 in each division also receive priority entry into the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour for 2008.

The Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League was created to provide the grass-roots walleye angler a chance to compete in professionally administered, close-to-home tournaments with lucrative cash awards.
