Teams from Texas, Kansas, and New Mexico gathered at Ute Lake on Saturday, April 28 for the first tournament of the Spring Season. Eleven of the teams were able to bring 5 fish limits to the scales. All fish were successfully released back into the lake. The bite was very good early in the day and tapered off  as the day wore on. Fish were taken in various depths ranging from 15 all the way to 50 foot deep. Carolina rigging, vertical jigging, and blades were the methods that brought in most of the fish.

Donnie Bell and Arvin Cowan of Fritch won the 1st place prize of $ 520 with 5 fish weighing 12.42 lbs. They also took the big fish pot of $130 with a 3 lb walleye. Kevin and Kalin Audrain of Fritch took 2nd and $325 with 5 fish weighing 9.93 lbs. The father and son team of Jim and James Welch from Fritch,Tx and Albuquerque, NM grabbed 3rd  and $195  with 5 fish weighing 9.14 lbs.

The rest of a very closely spaced top ten were: 4th  Hank and Hunter McWilliams of Fritch with 8.72 lbs; 5th Robert Reining and Merle Meaker of Panhandle with 8.70 lbs; 6th John McWilliams and Kenneth Sibley of Borger with 8.38 lbs; 7th Jeff Cooper and Scott Manske of Amarillo with 7.80 lbs; 8th David and Russell Wilkinson of Fritch and Amarillo with 7.50 lbs; 9th Bryan and Kenneth Garrison of Kismet, Kansas with 7.22 lbs; and 10th Dale and Pat Miller of Hobbs, NM with 6.91 lbs.
