| | TWA Canton lake Tournament Results
On Saturday, June 3, teams from the Texas Walleye Association gathered at Canton Lake, Oklahoma for a special make-up tourney before the TWA Championship. What had promised to be a good bite was washed away by a huge flood on Wolf Creek in the northeastern Texas Panhandle which feeds the Canton watershed. This resulted in massive amounts of water pouring both into and out of the lake. The promise of things to come was revealed in pre-fishing on Friday when only one of the teams reported that they could have weighed in only one fish that would exceed the 18” minimum size limit.
Sure enough, at weigh in on Saturday, only 6 fish were brought to the scales. The team of Jeff Cooper and Ron Alexander of Amarillo located a loosely grouped school of active fish in the upper lake area late in the day. They brought in 4 of the 6 fish weighing 10.06 lbs. to claim 1st and $400. They also won the big fish pot of $80 with a nice 4.20 lb. walleye. The other 2 fish were brought in by two of the local teams. Tom Evans and Curtis Haskins of Canton won 2nd and $240 with 1 fish weighing 2.46 lbs. Steven Jones and Jackie Roach of Canton took 3rd with 1 fish weighing 2.36 lbs. Needless to say, it was a quick weigh in!
The TWA Championship will be held at Lake Meredith on June 23-24. For more information on the TWA, contact either Donnie Bell at (806) 857 -2250 fishinbell123@yahoo.com or Dan Turner at (806) 935-3176 dnturner@valornet.com
