Boater Bill Shimota of Lonsdale, MN, and his co angler partner, Mike Eiden of New Haven, IN were one of only three teams to bring in a 5 fish limit of Walleye and Sauger to the scales today, to take the lead on day one of the FLW Walleye League Championship in Moline, Illinois.

Their basket weighed in at 9.4 pounds, and was 2.26 pounds over the second place team of Jonathan Shoemaker of Elyria, OH and his co angler, Eldon Olson of Mason City, IA who weighed in 4 fish for 7.14 pounds.

Eric Olson, the FLW Touring Pro, representing “Team Land-O-Lakes”, landed in the number 3 position along with his co angler, Jamie Reverman of St. Joseph, MN with a 4 fish limit weighing in at 7.12 pounds.

The field of 90 boaters and co anglers will fish one more day, and then cut to the top 10 for the final day.  The top ten cut off, as of today, is a mere 4.11 pounds.
“The bite is really tough out there right now”, said Ranger/Evinrude Pro Rick LaCourse. “The fish haven’t really transitioned into a fall pattern yet”.

To get a better feel of how tough the bite was today, the breakdown is as follows:
Out of 90 teams, there were….
3-5 fish limits
5-4 fish baskets
2-3 fish baskets
7-2 fish baskets
24-1 fish baskets
And 49 zeros! (That’s more than ½ the field!)

Tomorrow is another chance for everyone to make a big move. It’s not impossible for anyone to end up in the top 10 by the end of the day tomorrow.  Those who zeroed today, could very well end up with a 5 fish limit, while those who weighed in good baskets today, could easily zero.

Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for breezy and much cooler conditions… high in the lower 60’s with 15-25mph Northwest winds, with clear and sunny skies. A drastic contrast to today’s high temps of low in the 80’s.

Tomorrow’s take off is at 7am, and the weigh in will start with the first flight at 3pm.
