MWC Walleye Madness at Lake Erie by Julia (Juls) Davis

MWC Lake Erie 4/25/2008 Day 1 PM

MWC Day 1 Port ClintonThe team of Jason Kopf and Mike Miller, both of Ohio, set a new MWC “One Day Weight” tournament record to take the lead with their record breaking 5 fish limit tipping the scales at 48.95 pounds today, on the first day of the MWC event on Lake Erie.

Their basket is a 3 plus pound lead over the second place Father/Son team of Larry Rhoads Sr. and Larry Rhoads II, of Oregonia, OH and Burlington, KY who brought in a 5 fish limit weighing in at 45.18 pounds.

Rob Jones, of Redford, MI and George Miller, of Flint, MI bring up the third spot with a nice limit weighing in at 43.86 pounds.

As was predicted, the weather was beautiful today, after the rain moved out early this morning. The winds gusted at times, but everyone made it in at the 5PM check in time…on time.

The weather for tomorrow is as follows:
Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 65. West wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms

Walleye Madness Sweet Sixteen

There is actually two events in one this weekend, as the MWC regular Eastern event and the MWC’s “Walleye Madness Sweet Sixteen” take to the water.
16 qualifiers for the “Sweet 16”, were held back to the end of the weigh in, so they could all weigh in together. It was a great idea that helped give it a feel of being an entirely different tournament.
Of those 16 qualifiers fishing a bracketed event, only 8 teams will advance to fish the second day. The top 4 teams will fish off on a third day (Sunday), where the teams will come back to weigh in at 1PM, and the top two teams will be determined. Then, the top two teams will be sent back out to fish until 6PM. The winner of the “Sweet 16” will be determined at that time.

Join us here again tomorrow, to find out who will advance and who will pack it up and go home!

If for some reason, there is a blow day tomorrow, the entire field will fish on Sunday, and the final 4 of the “Sweet 16” will have to stay until Monday, to finish the fish off. It’s a nice paycheck though, so I’m sure none of them will miss not being able to get back to work on Monday!

See you tomorrow!

Juls
