Lake Meredith Tournament Story

What promised to be the ideal time for a tournament at Lake Meredith on May 17 was foiled by a wild series of low pressure systems with erratic whirling winds from virtually all directions.

The result was a tough bite with weights way below what had been anticipated.

The father and son team of John and Peyton McWilliams of Borger decided to pick a spot and wait out the fish with good results as they captured 1st place and $640 with a 5 fish limit weighing 13.76 lbs.

Another father and son team, Jim Welch of Fritch and James Welch of Albuquerque, NM took 2nd and $400 by going shallow and bringing in 5 fish weighing 12.45 lbs. Brett Mills and JD Carr of Fritch grabbed 3rd and $240 with 5 fish weighing 11.90 lbs. The big fish pot of $160 was claimed by the team of Bryan and Kenneth Garrison of Kismet, KS with a 4.59 lb walleye.

4th place went to another father and son team of Ron Alexander of plains, KS and Jeff Alexander of Amarillo with 5 fish weighing 11.34 lbs.

Don Tollison and Mike Robinson of Sanford claimed 5th with 5 fish weighing 10.52 lbs. The rest of the top ten were:

6th Kevin and Kalin Audrain of Fritch with 5 fish weighing 9.07 lbs;

7th Scott Manske and Ken LaPlount of Amarillo with 5 fish weighing 8.61 lbs;

8th Bryan and Ken Garrison of Kismet, KS with 3 fish weighing 6.65 lbs;

9th Ed Rodriguez and Johnny Nowell of Fritch with 5 fish weighing 6.37 lbs;

and 10th David Wilkenson of Fritch and Russell Wilkenson of Amarillo with 4 fish weighing 6.15 lbs.

A total of 16 teams fished the tourney and all fish were successfully released back into the lake. The next tournament will be the Texas Walleye Championship at Lake Meredith on June 21-22 with slots to the Cabelas National Team Championship going to the winners.
