2008 Texas Walleye Association Championship by Texas Walleye Association
 

1st Place
John McWilliams and Peyton McWilliams


The 2008 Texas Walleye Association Championship at Lake Meredith on June 22-23 awarded $5130 in prize money and an additional $2,000 in estimated door prizes to the association’s qualifying teams. The father and son team of John McWilliams and Peyton McWilliams of Borger swept all the first place money with total winnings of $2500 by winning the overall title and the first place money on both days of the tourney. John and Peyton won the Championship title and $1000 with a 10 fish limit weighing 21.95 lbs.

2nd Place

The team of Jeff Cooper of Amarillo and Ron Alexander of Plains, Kansas took 2nd overall and $500 with 10 fish weighing 19.33 lbs.

3rd place

The brother team of David Wilkenson of Fritch and Russell Wilkenson of Amarillo won 3rd and $250 with 18.65 lbs.

Another brother team, Dan Turner of Dumas and David Turner of Bristow, Ok came in 4th winning $100 with 18.36 lbs. 

The father and son team of Jim Welch of Fritch and James Welch of Albuquerque, NM finished in 5th with 17.85 lbs winning a tool set.

Most of the teams reported catching their fish either on jigs or spinner rigs over structure. Please, check the results pages for all the complete results of the tournament. (Click Here to get the results)

On the first day of the tourney, John and Peyton McWilliams won 1st and $750 with a 5 fish limit weighing 11.63 lbs. Meryl Meeker and Jim Hobbs of Panhandle found a hump with a school of big fish late in the day and won 2nd and $500 with 5 fish weighing 11.38 lbs. Jeff Cooper and Ron Alexander took 3rd and $250 with 5 fish weighing 11.12 lbs. Jeff and Ron also won the big fish pot of $140 with a nice 5.12 lb fish and a tool set for the biggest fish of the tournament. The father and son team of Hank and Hunter McWilliams of Fritch grabbed 4th with 5 fish weighing 10.24 lbs. Dan and David Turner took 5th with 5 fish weighing 9.37 lbs.

On the second day, John and Peyton McWilliams came through again winning 1st and $750 with 5 fish weighing 10.32 lbs. Following closely in 2nd was Jim and James Welch with 5 fish weighing 10.19 lbs. to win $500. The Welch’s also won the big fish pot of $140 with a 4.03 lb fish. Robert  and Gary Reining of Panhandle took 3rd and $250 with 5 fish weighing 9.83 lbs. Ed Rodriguez and David Harris of Fritch finished 4th with 5 fish weighing 9.53 lbs barely edging out David and Russell Wilkenson who finished 5th with 9.51 lbs.
