| |  What has been said about history repeating itself sure isn’t referred to fishing. What was expected to be a good bite sure didn’t amount to much. Fishing was tough due to high water temps for the time of the year and an enormous amount of baitfish. In all there were on 37 fish caught with a combined weight of 58.37 pounds.
Day 1 went as scheduled as we starting calling boats out at 7 am. The team of Kevin and Kalin Audrain came in with the big stringer of the day with 3 fish weighing a total of 6.68 pounds. This stringer also contained the big fish of the tournament. The big fish weighed in at 2.78. This fish got Kevin and Kalin the big fish pot of $300 and a $50 dollar gift certificate from Mack’s Lure. Coming in at a close second was the team of Hank and John McWilliams. They also had a 3 fish stringer weighing in at 5.18 pounds. Sitting at third after the first day was Ed Rodriguez and David Harris that brought in 3 fish as well with a weight of 3.98 pounds. Overall there were 20 fish caught on day one.
Day 2 was just as tough if not tougher for getting fish in the boat. Kevin and Kalin maintained their day 1 lead bringing in 4 fish weighing in at 7.08 pounds. Jim and James Welch was able to make up from their goose egg on day 1 and bring in the only 5 fish limit of the tourney which weighed 7.6 pounds which enabled them to leapfrog into 2nd place overall. Hank and John McWilliams managed to bring in 1 fish weighing 2.18 pounds keeping them in the money for third place. There were only 17 fish caught on day 2.
Overall it was a good turnout as we had fishermen from 5 different states taking part in the tourney. We had teams from Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and Colorado. The tourney paid out a total $3440 and about another $1000 in prizes. I would like to thank those sponsors who donated to the tourney and helped make it a success. Those sponsors were Berkley, Mack’s Lure, Hot Rig Tackle, Plano, Scotty, Reef Runner, Ranger Boats, Reel Bait, Parker Marine, City of Logan, American Legion, TGWally, Ruff Nec, The Tacklebox and the Annex. I would also like to thank Ben from Ruf Nec for doing the weigh-ins, Rob from the Tacklebox for checking the boats for fish as they came off the water, David McWilliams for helping with weigh-ins, and Kevin and Kalin Audrain and Bryan Garrison for doing boat inspections on both days.
