| Juls |
Ok everyone....shall we get started? Let's all give Bruce DeShano a warm welcome! |
| Ray Champine |
hello |
| walleye_69 |
Hello |
| Juls |
Bruce why don't we start off with what's new at Off Shore Tackle? |
| chairman |
Great |
| chairman |
We just finished a new Mini Planer that is going to be fun to use |
| Juls |
Everyone...if you have a question, just ask away....Bruce will try to keep up. If he misses a question, just ask again. |
| Juls |
how big is it? |
| chairman |
it is 3" X 6" and Yellow as always |
| Juls |
what will it be used for? |
| chairman |
we fished all summer with it for walleye and even steelhead |
| Juls |
what application suits it best? |
| Juls |
Ok, so it's NOT just for little fish? ;) |
| chairman |
originally we wanted something for lite line anglers and inland anglers panfish and such |
| chairman |
tried to say calico but the filter kicked me out LOL |
| Juls |
Feel free to jump in guys!!!! |
| chairman |
No, it will work for just about any fish. |
| Juls |
Is there anything new with the OR-12 |
| Juls |
for those that don't know the numbers...the OR-12 is the regular sized planer board |
| chairman |
Both the 12 and the orange 31 now have a lead free or nearly so ballast |
| Juls |
hi cojimars |
| cojimars |
hi' |
| chairman |
that makes us the first planer company to go green and remove the lead. |
| Juls |
weeeeeee..that's very cool! |
| chairman |
the new Mini is the OR34 and has no ballast. |
| Juls |
doesn't it also have a removable arm so you can use it on either side of the boat? |
| Juls |
hi stppr |
| chairman |
we have also changed the 12 releases from the black medium tension to the OR19 orange release |
| stpper |
hi |
| chairman |
that will save the angler about $6 |
| walleye_69 |
How good do they work in rough water |
| Juls |
cool...the OR-19 is the same as the red OR-16 but without the pin in the center of the pad, right? |
| Ray Champine |
What's the recommended spring position on the OR16, if your using mono. Front or back? |
| chairman |
So far so good. Rough water is hard on real small boards, but Dean Arnoldussen and I ran them in 2-3 footers |
| chairman |
Front (heavy) setting always on the 16 |
| chairman |
the 19 doesn't have a pin in the pad |
| chairman |
that way it can be used by striper and salmon anglers as a release |
| Ray Champine |
I'll have to do hand excercises then...those baby's are stout! |
| chairman |
they do hold. pinch them over the bend for the easiest way to open them. |
| Juls |
come on guys....no questions? |
| Ray Champine |
Thanks for the tip. Is there an easy way to double wrap for the superlines? |
| chairman |
the little one is a little tricker to set, than the 12 and 31, but they are pretty trouble free |
| Juls |
Bruce fished tournaments for years....hunts big game....etc...he's a very interesting person...pick his brain! |
| chairman |
No, I change to the Snapper for those lines. |
| 620 |
how quikly can you switch the mini's from left to right ? |
| Juls |
hello guest...welcome |
| chairman |
hey! thanks, they can be changed in seconds. and can be taken down to fold flat in your tackle box |
| Ray Champine |
I'm new trolling. Any rod recommendations? |
| Juls |
hello again Johnny |
| chairman |
They are rigged with a yellow clip on the front and a snap swivel on the back, but who knows what you anglers will come up with for that? |
| Johnny |
Hello everyone |
| Juls |
How many shows are you doing this winter Bruce? |
| chairman |
Ray, I like something about 7-8 foot. Downrigger type rods are great. save money on the planer rods and spend it on the best jigging rod you can buy. |
| 620 |
$30 bucks at gaunder, 8 foot telescopic planer rods, you can't go wrong. |
| Ray Champine |
I agree. I can't wait for soft water here in MIchigan. Detroit River or St. Clair River jigging holds a special place in my heart! |
| Juls |
Hi Rich...welcome |
| chairman |
Mark Romanack is doing most of the MI ones for us. I will stop by some of them and spend a day or so. Shows are mostly being done by the pro staff and we really preffer in-store demonstrations over sport shows |
| Rich Stadler |
Hi all |
| chairman |
There you go! Great price. |
| chairman |
The Mini should be under $15 at the stores. |
| Ray Champine |
Thanks, 620. I'll definately check that out. |
| Juls |
Anyone have a question? |
| Juls |
Bruce...you got into striper fishing these past few years....are you planning on fishing any s.tournies this year? |
| 620 |
when will we see them? |
| chairman |
I just talked with a guy about fishing out in the ocean for striper with eels and boards. |
| stpper |
what are some of the common mistakes you see people making while using the boards? |
| chairman |
The little ones are in stock now. |
| Juls |
Bruce, there has been discussion on the message boards about tournaments going all artificial...what are your thoughts on that subject... |
| chairman |
Biggest mistake is over thinking the board. they are really only a directional bobber. |
| chairman |
I don't fish mine as far out as a lot of people. Just enough for a good spread |
| chairman |
Artificial is the way to go for a professional angler. not all fishing or all tournaments, just the cream of the cream in my opinion |
| chairman |
I tried to get Berkely to do that years ago when they were sponsoring PWT. |
| chairman |
Is green bay froze over? |
| chairman |
LOL |
| Juls |
Ok, do you think it would get more bait companies to compete with berkley or do you think berkley would have a monopoly in that regard? |
| Guest |
why do we want to be like a bass tourney |
| chairman |
The biggest need to be the leaders. The rest will follow |
| Guest |
walleye are a different breed |
| chairman |
Because of the sponsorship availibility of artificial bait companies. |
| Juls |
what is your thinking? why would it elevate pro tournaments? Can you elaborate a little bit? |
| chairman |
They still eat artificials. |
| Juls |
oops...beat me to it |
| Juls |
lol |
| Juls |
hi fishthrills |
| chairman |
The anglers can catch fish with arts. and the regular fisherman can use live bait. Just like bass. |
| fishthrills |
Hello All |
| Juls |
Hi ya Bill! |
| chairman |
For the same reason all pro sports have tougher rules. Separates the skill levels. |
| ackermannsacre |
didn't forget this week! |
| Juls |
heheh...you boys down south are using planer boards more now, right Bill? |
| chairman |
I was in Sweden last summer and they have some fun fishing those lakes. |
| chairman |
Tannic water and dark fish like Canada walleye. They call them Zander. |
| ackermannsacre |
quite a bit, think it helps tremedously in our clear water |
| Juls |
do you fish zander the same way you fish for walleye here, Bruce? |
| Juls |
what was the biggest one you caught when you were there? |
| Juls |
I hear they get pretty big |
| chairman |
We do now! they were a little behind. |
| Juls |
heheh... |
| Juls |
did you board sales jump overseas? :) |
| chairman |
They troll or drift with large minnows on wire leaders because of the pike. |
| Juls |
Mikey!! long time no see buddy! |
| chairman |
no, it is expensive for us to get products over there. an or 12 is about $80 |
| Slapshot17 |
I know cabin fever is starting to set in! |
| chairman |
that is each! |
| Juls |
whew! that's crazy |
| chairman |
Taxes and import duties and anything else they can think of to add on. |
| chairman |
$11 gasoline |
| chairman |
But they have health care LOL |
| Juls |
lol |
| chairman |
Our best Zander was about 13 1/2 and we caught a lot of 3-5's |
| Juls |
feel free to jump in everyone...ask your questions....he's a troller ya know! |
| chairman |
boards, big stick baits and Rapals worked well. 18 Raps and we caught fish less than a foot long! |
| chairman |
I learned something there about big baits LOL |
| Juls |
who better to ask about using planer boards than the guy who created the best one ont he market! ;) |
| Slapshot17 |
Bruce I know we are all really excited out here in the Dakota's to start using the new boards you have coming out! |
| Johnny |
Sounds like Tawas |
| chairman |
I did some stuff with Gary Howey so he has footage of the little one working Mike. |
| Ray Champine |
Are the tattle flags like traing wheels? Do I need to learn how to use boards without? |
| Slapshot17 |
I should have you send it over to me so I can take a look at them and get the ball rolling out here for you. |
| Juls |
it's very cute |
| chairman |
I recommend that you start with the 12 and then grow into the TF's. You will understand them better that way. |
| chairman |
Will do Mike. |
| chairman |
Also,, on the boards without flags, Keith and Gary run both clips off the bracket and that makes the board more sensitive. I have converted Gary to TF's though..... Well Chase did actually... |
| Slapshot17 |
Awesome! The samller boards work wonders out here on the river system. We have short trolling runs and most of the runs are really shallow with the introductio of gizzard shad. They will find a a place out here for sure! |
| Juls |
what size are the majority of the fish you catch Ray?....here on erie there's no need for the tattles really, but on bago, I like them. Bago gets weedy and the majority of fish are smaller than here on erie....tattle flags are good on weedy lakes or where there are a lot of smaller fish... |
| chairman |
They work with 3 colors of lead too. and they don't drag in the water when you have a fish on. |
| Slapshot17 |
and rough fish |
| Ray Champine |
I have seen some guys that run flags bend them over, so that on a pull back, it slaps the top of the board. Pretty goog audible indicator. Anyone else seen this? |
| chairman |
I really like the TF when fishing spinners anywhere. amazing how many big fish will swim along with the board |
| walleye_69 |
do the new boards have a Tattle Flag Upgrade Kit |
| Juls |
true true chairman |
| chairman |
They must be young guys, I can hardly hear the kicker LOL |
| Juls |
lol |
| chairman |
no, they are too small. you will not have a problem knowing something is bothering them. |
| Juls |
hi jt...welcome |
| Ray Champine |
Juls, I just fished Erie for the first time in November. Average fish was 5 lbs. I do alot of jigging on the St.Clair River and Detroit River. Average fish is probably 2 to 3 pounds. |
| jtcustom |
Howdy |
| chairman |
I have one, just spoiled having to turn a wheel again. The TR1 really spoils me. |
| Juls |
Ok, you're here....then do like Bruce suggested....when fishing spinners, use the flags. When pulling cranks...there's no need to. |
| chairman |
I like the EM. |
| 620 |
there is no flag on the minis ? |
| chairman |
Treat the flag like a bird dog, if it does something different check it. |
| Juls |
no need for the flag on the mini 620...when you see it you will understand |
| Juls |
hi eyebanger...welcome |
| chairman |
no, it is not ballasted and would not support a flag. I find that I am reading the rod tip now and not even looking at the boards |
| Juls |
nice crowd tonight...thanks for coming everyone!:) |
| 620 |
thx chair |
| walleye_69 |
so are we going to b selling our other planer boards @ the next garage sale |
| Juls |
do you use all the same rod model when you troll Bruce? |
| chairman |
I had a bunch of them for the NPAA anglers at the meeting in WI earlier this month |
| chairman |
I do, but I have also used a small spinning reel and ultra light with 6# with the mini |
| Juls |
funny 69....NO! :) |
| Terroreyes |
Just got here. Are we talking Church minis? |
| Slapshot17 |
that is the biggest thing that we do out here too on Oahe, get the board out and set the drag just light enough to hold the board out away from the boat. Once it snags or a fish hits it you know. works really well for us |
| chairman |
No, they have a place. |
| Juls |
bite your tongue!!!! |
| chairman |
No, the new Off Shore Mini Planer OR 34 |
| 620 |
when will they be in stores |
| chairman |
I really think their place is in the smaller boat, inland angler and for fly in's to canada |
| Ray Champine |
Why do all the model numbers start with OR? Just curious. |
| chairman |
They should be there shortly, the Distributers have them in their catalogs and now it is just a matter of filling the pipeline. |
| Juls |
hi Steve...welcome... |
| Terroreyes |
Sweet, I'm an Offshore man. :) How are they pulling deep Reef Runners? Because I lots of deep cranks off boards, I've shied away from mini's |
| .Steve-In. |
Ty J |
| Juls |
I don't think they can pull a deep reef runner...can they Bruce? |
| chairman |
Well, when we started the company, the product line was the OR1,2 3, and 4. OR Stands for Off Shore Release |
| Juls |
hi Scott...welcome |
| Eyebanger |
thnx j |
| 620 |
yes |
| chairman |
We pulled the Deep lil ripper, but the reefs give them a hard time. |
| Juls |
620? |
| chairman |
rip sticks they handle well though |
| Juls |
cool |
| Slapshot17 |
Bruce are they yellow in color? |
| Ray Champine |
Any favorite baits for Spring and Fall on Erie? |
| chairman |
again, we did not make them to compete with the 21/31 board |
| jtcustom |
how far out have been able to send them |
| Slapshot17 |
Or Red Wings red? ;) |
| chairman |
Yellow as usual. the only board not yellow is the 31 and we did that bacause it does not have a flag and is easier to see in red |
| Juls |
hi gillmaster...welcome |
| chairman |
We have had them out of site. just watched the rod tip |
| Slapshot17 |
And the ones you set the Glorvigens up with about a 100 years ago. Those were red I believe? |
| chairman |
ah! that was a tetst board for Cannon, I wanted to market the board through cannon as well as Off Shore. there were 50 pairs made in red and Glorvs and Teddy T had some. |
| Juls |
this still working? |
| Juls |
nevermind ;) |
| chairman |
Cannon did not bite on the proposal!!!! DRAT |
| Juls |
12 more minutes to get your questions in...Bruce is on his way to the airport at 9pmET :) |
| chairman |
We are looking at some different light arrangements for night fishing, but the market is so small I hate to invest too much in it |
| chairman |
Thaks for reminding me. |
| Slapshot17 |
To be honest bruce I use reflection tape on mine at night and that seems to work really well for us. |
| chairman |
We made a glow in the dark board a few years ago, but the glow was not up to Off Shore Standards. They are real collectors Items. I only have 4 myself out of 100 |
| chairman |
That lets you see them, but the other guy is in trouble! |
| Ray Champine |
What would be a "go to" bait for Spring or Fall on Erie? Deep reef Runner? |
| chairman |
No, rip stick in Eriedescent |
| Slapshot17 |
Very true |
| chairman |
and metalic rainbow trout |
| Juls |
Pink Lemonade Baby!!!! heheh |
| Ray Champine |
Thanks, I'll try that out this year. |
| Juls |
Pink Lemonade works all year long! |
| chairman |
Thats good too. I have the old colors and they still work |
| Ray Champine |
You'll have a serious crankbait addiction! LOL |
| Slapshot17 |
For our area Bruce (North Dakota) where can buyers look to find the new Mini's? Scheels, dakota tackle, online? |
| Juls |
:) |
| Terroreyes |
Compared to regular Offshores, how far can you get them out from the boat with light set-ups, like say a harness/1oz weight. More or less line to get the same distance? |
| chairman |
Anyone that carrys off shore products should be able to get the new 34's |
| Slapshot17 |
perfect |
| Juls |
is that a trick question Jim? |
| chairman |
Juls and I had them out 40-50 feet this spring during the PWT championship on Saginaw bay. |
| Juls |
it was a very calm day that day...:) |
| chairman |
But I have had them out a long way. Why the importance toget them way away from the boat? A good spread is important. |
| Terroreyes |
Nope. One thing I have a problem with running board on the Detroit River is that it takes alot of line to get them away from the boat. Was wondering if the minis might cut that down. |
| chairman |
It was a good day wasn't it? |
| Juls |
distance is distance isn't it? correct me if I'm wrong...Im just asking |
| chairman |
How are you going to fish them on the river? Suspended fish? |
| Juls |
that was a great day...we caught lots of fish! :) |
| Terroreyes |
Usually in the botton 1/3 of the column in 15-20 FOW |
| chairman |
Boards in the River... your going to get hollered at by the Jiggers lol |
| chairman |
OK, done that in the flats and lower parts. You don't need to be very far from the boat in the river. |
| Juls |
jigger be damned...hehehe |
| Slapshot17 |
lol it takes a lot of skill juls to weave around the jiggers :) but a person can get pretty skilled at it ;) |
| chairman |
my wire is stronger than their super line LOL |
| Terroreyes |
I hate jigging. I perfected a board/Deep Reef Runner program this year :) |
| Ray Champine |
The jiggers aren't that bad...it's the handliners! Those boys have some weights to chuck at you! |
| chairman |
1 1/4 beats 3/8 anytime |
| Juls |
ruh oh....AND he's got all the custom colored reef runners...that's dangerous |
| Ray Champine |
true |
| chairman |
Yeah, I agree. That river is probably not the best to take up a 100' path! |
| chairman |
your trolling and the handliners are slidn |
| Juls |
I hear ya Mike....I can weave in and out of them handlining, but i wouldn't want to try it with boards....not on the detroit anyway |
| Terroreyes |
Yeah, it can get real tricky trolling between both jigger and handliners. LOL |
| chairman |
You better be a BIG fellow to do that LOL |
| Slapshot17 |
Gotta run everyone, it was nice chatting with you! Bruce keep up the great work and thanks for all your help over the years! Juls tell your hubby hello! Over and out! Mike Peluso |
| chairman |
see ya mike. call |
| Juls |
nite nite mike...thanks for coming |
| Slapshot17 |
I will! Thanks. |
| Juls |
Well, it's the top of the hour and we'll officially end tonight's hosted chat....but, feel free to stick around and chat with your fellow WC'rs! Thank you Bruce, for hosting tonight's chat! Well done! |
| .Steve-In. |
TY B |
| 620 |
why do you include a flag in the tattle kits |
| chairman |
Thank you for signing in. Lets do it again. |
| Terroreyes |
Thanks Bruce! I'll definitely be picking up a pair of the minis to give a try! |
| Johnny |
Thanks Bruce |
| chairman |
That is because the one on the board gets beat up sometimes and they get a new one with the other parts. |
| 620 |
10-4 |
| chairman |
See you all on the water. Bye and Thanks |
| Juls |
nite nite! |
| Eyebanger |
Auger time... |
| .Steve-In. |
clap clap |
| Juls |
have a safe trip to the airport...say hey to Jenna for me! |
| Juls |
clap clap clap clap clap clap clap Thanks Bruce! |
| Rich Stadler |
Thanks Bruce |
| .Steve-In. |
hey BB |
| Eyebanger |
yo bb |
| chairman |
Thank You. I will tell her. Dad just called. Perch biting off mud creek on Sag bay. I willbe back sunday. |
| chairman |
Bye all |
| Juls |
hehehe...nice |
