AIM Anglers Earn Their Fish Today by Julia (Juls) Davis

Schilling Triumphs on New Water at Green Bay AIM Event

After the first day of competition, Chad Schilling from Akaska, SD, leads by less than half a pound with a seven fish limit of 32.22 pounds. "I've never been to Green Bay before. I've fished up in the Bays de Noc, but this is my first trip to Green Bay", said Schilling. "It was a little bit of a shock. I'm used to putting out my boards and straightening my stuff, and rigging my rods, etc. That first day of prefishing I never got my boards out...they kept coming back at me...with fish on them! I had a great partner today. Everything worked slick, and we were efficient. We had a lot of fun. It was a good day."

Juls: You're sitting in the number one spot...congrats...so, tell us, how was your day on the water today?

Chad: It went really good. It started slow...I was on spot number 4 before I finally seen a Walleye, but I kind of expected that. This cold front needs to start over...I told myself, "Just go prefish"... and, got to spot number 4, and caught a few fish...stumbled around and caught a couple more... and, then we came in and filled out. But, it was a great day! (he grins broadly and chuckles with enthusiasm)

Close in second place is the Claremont, MN, Brett King with 31.77 pounds for 7 fish.

Dennis Galau of Midland, MI sits in third place right now with a limit weighing in at 30.85 pounds.

In fourth place is Robert Blosser of  Poynette, WI with a 7 fish limit weight of 29.36 pounds.

Rounding out the top 5 after day one is Tom Kemos of Oconomowoc, WI with 28.81 pounds for 7 fish.

The weigh in was MC'd by Pro Angler and Promoter Scott Glorvigen. What a treat for all the spectators who dropped by this afternoon to take in the festivities. Scott and his brother Marty are still saught after as two of the best speakers and teachers in this sport. He did an excellent job of asking the pros the right questions that would elicit more than a yes or no answer out of them.

He gave each competitor sufficient time on stage and made them feel at ease with his easy flowing banter. His participation was a nice surprise, and he kept the audience's attention for the entire weigh in.

The fact that the weather this afternoon was absolutely beautiful, if you like that overcast, jeans with flip-flops kind of day, also helped to keep people sitting relaxed, and enjoying the weigh in.

The "Fire Over The Fox" doesn't start until Saturday, so there isn't anything else in the park right now...there's plenty of parking available.

But, if you plan on coming down on Saturday to see who wins, you'd better get there early! I was told that there will be 7 live bands taking over the bridge (that's in the background of some pictures). They are closing that bridge and there will be dancing in the streets! (Literally) So, plan on coming down to the park at Dousman Street and the Fox River, where the big red tent is, and join in the excitement as the competitors learn who will be the winner of the second AIM Pro Walleye Series event of the season.

For those of you who weren't able to join us downtown this afternoon, but watched via the internet either through Walleye Central's Live Leader Board or through the official AIM website at www.aimfishing.com, thanks for joining us and chatting with us! It makes the internet weigh in much more enjoyable. Your time is appreciated!

A special thanks goes out to Baycom for providing a live hardwire connection for WC to use to help spread the news about AIM. It absolutely could not happen without them!

No one mentioned what they were doing specifically to catch fish today, but from what I could find out, the majority of the field is running a spinner program, and some are running cranks in the afternoons. We'll find out more tomorrow as they cut the field for the third day's competition for July 4th. Those who are done fishing on the second day, usually will tell what they were doing the first two days to catch their fish.

Join us again tomorrow as we continue our live coverage of the AIM Pro Walleye Series out of Green Bay, WI. on Walleye Central's Live Leader Board.

Tomorrow's blast off is out of Metro Park's Boat Launch at 8am. The weigh in will begin again at 5pm central time.

Tomorrow's weather is expected to be mostly sunny with  a high near 75. Calm winds will go North between 5 & 8 mph. And, Friday's weather promises to be even warmer, with a high near 80, and clam winds out of the Southwest, and sunshine. The water temps will be on the rise again, so we should see the bite improve along with the number of bigger fish caught improving too.

"It's only going to get better and better", was the saying most of the field could agree on today. Let's hope they're right! :)

Hope to see you all there!
