Sunshine And Warmer Temps Seduce AIM Anglers on Day 2 by Julia (Juls) Davis

Sunshine And Warmer Temps Seduce AIM Anglers on Day 2

The concensus among the anglers this morning, was that the bite would improve today, and keep on improving on into tomorrow, with the warmer temperatures and sunshine forecasted for the Independance Day weekend.

Spirits were high, as the 47 Pros were launched by their Co Anglers this morning. Everyone was looking forward to a nice day on the water today.

While some said their spots would improve, others were just hopeful to find an aggressive pod of fish someplace.

Most Pros have several spots they are fishing, and are hopping from one to the other too. Some are fishing many miles away, and others are hardly using any gas at all. There are fish everywhere here, but finding the "right" ones is the tricky part. And, as the saying goes..."the person who brings in the most weight, wins!"

Now that the luck factor has been taken out of the equation, by not having to follow state regulations of a "no-cull" event, the anglers must catch their best 7 fish to even compete with a field of this caliber of angler. In the past, in a no cull event, the anglers had to decide early on what size fish they would keep or throw back, since they were not allowed to upgrade their catch once a fish was placed in the livewell. Once a limit was reached, the angler was done fishing for the day.

In the AIM Pro Walleye Series, they write down a fishes length, take a picture of it, and keep on fishing right up until it's time to come back in.

Going out today, and leading the pack, is Akaska, SD Pro Chad Schilling. He's only got a small lead with only a half a pound, but he's confident he can go out and do it again today. I caught up with him this morning and had a little chat. Here are Chad's thoughts on yesterday and today.

Juls: Morning Chad...What's the plan today?

Chad: I kind of had the "day", the way it was supposed to go. I mean, ah, I knew it was going to be tough in the morning...going for the big fish...and, I got lucky and got four bites. It took a few spots, and a little bit of looking, and a little bit of scrambling to get those bites. I kind of look for the same plan today.

Juls: How many spots are you fishing and looking at?

Chad: Ahhh Boy! Ahhh...there's probably 7 or 8, you know I've got a couple "little fish spots", or numbers of fish, and then I have 4 or 5 REALLY good spots...big fish spots.  They say, "You shouldn't fish memories", and since I don't have any memories of Green Bay, that might be helping. I look at these local guys, and think, "sheesh" they must have a ton of memories here. I guess I do have a couple memories from the past week, but nothing like these guys do. I can forget them pretty quick. They've caught them "there" for years, and I've only caught them for a day or two. (laughs)

I jump around...I check water temperatures...watch my locator...etc. It's a weird place to fish, because one day you'll mark the fish and you'll just hammer them! The next day, you'll hammer them, and you won't see one fish on your graph all day.

The graph is really important for water temps and stuff like that. Some days, they'll tell you right where they are, but if they move to the surface, it doesn't matter what brand of graph you're using, none of them will show those "ghost" fish. You're just not going to mark them, when they are just barely as deep as your transducer.

I'm looking for a great day! I'm going to go out and go for my "big dawgs" again, and if that works out, and I will come back and put in a limit from inside. Hopefully I don't have to...hopefully, I'll have a limit of "big dawgs" before I have to come back in.

Juls: We'll best of luck to you today! Be safe and have fun!

Chad: Thanks Juls and Walleye Central....(smiles)

Today's weigh in will begin at 5pm Central Time at the park (note to self, get name of that park!) that is on the corner of the Fox River and Dousman Street in Green Bay, WI. There's plenty of parking today, but tomorrow will be busier, so make plans to come down early, if you want to see who will win the first AIM Pro Walleye Series event on Green Bay!

Thanks to the folks at "Baycom" for making it possible to bring you live coverage of this event too. If you can't make it down to the weigh in site to watch it live, you can watch it via the internet on Walleye Central's Live Leader Board at www.liveleaderboard.com. Watch the live feed, chat with your buddies, and watch the weights as they get get listed.

For more information on the AIM Pro Walleye Series, please see their website at www.aimfishing.com.

Hope to see you all there!
