The Walleye Anglers Trail top 20 teams of the 2004 season competed for the “Best of the Best” Championship trophy and $1,350 in cash. The brother team of Denver McKinnon, Minneapolis, MN & Bob McKinnon, LaCrescent, MN. captured the honors with a two day weight of 29 lbs. 9 oz.
The tournament kicked off with a rules meeting Friday evening sponsored by Happy Joe’s Pizza.
The weather for the tournament was ideal with lows in the 50’s and highs in the lower 70’s with sunny skies. The river temperature was approximately 58 degrees.
Anglers found that the walleyes had staged in the tail waters of the dams and were able to catch impressive baskets both days.
Denver & Bob McKinnon anchored below dam 11 in Dubuque and flipped jigs tipped with willow cats to pull out the victory.
Tom Millenkamp of Dyersville, IA brought a 3 lb. 4 oz. walleye to the scales to capture the big fish award.
