Whats a good rod with a soft tip for deadsticking with a circle hook? I have been trying deadsticking with circle hooks on a 6' gl2 in with a medium heavy action with results that are not very good. Been missing to many fish.

In my opinion that happens way to often with circle hooks. Deadsticking is awesome with a 8 1/2' to 10 1/2' rods but use the Gamakatsu Octopus hooks and quit wasting time with the circle hooks.

Take a look at Cabela's E-Glass rods for walleye.
I even think they may be in the Cabela's bargan cave web site now, worth a look Eh, good deadstick.
For deadsticking big bad critters like pike, muskie or cats try a Aurora Sports rod Med/lt or a Berkley Reflex 8' med.
The Pete Maina line (Bass Pro) has a few great options too in IM-6.

well guys i am not the walleye expert that many of you are but i do have a little though on this subject. most of my walleye fishing is done from the bank with live sunfish. how ever i dont use circle hooks. i use mustand or eagle claw kahle hooks. these seam to get the most hook up's.
as far as rods go i have found one from bass pro that i belive to be an excellent rod for this type of fishing. it is the graphite series trolling rod. it is a medium light rod that is 8 1/2ft long. this rod allows for feeling ever bump along the bottom and the bait moveing but is still strong enough to cast a ounce and half of weight with no problems. the other thing i like about this rod is the price. it sells for just over 30 bucks and is well worth it. i know that many of you like the high dollar rods but this one is a great rod at a great price. dave

I am running a custom rod that was built on the StCroix blank. The rod is 10.5' long and was built for long casts with light line and tackle. This rod is lots of fun to catch fish with. My largest walleye on this rod was a 22.5" and was caught on 2# line during a nasty cold front.
B&B Custom rods in Ripon Wisconsin built mine. Call them if you want them to make you one!

My first choice would be the 1065C Loomis. It is a 10.5 footer and has the right action. This rod retails for under $200 and I have used this series for years with great success when fishing a dead rod.

If you're missing fish with circle hooks, first try using one hook size larger than "normal". Remember, the gap of the hook is partially closed by that bent-in point. Also if the hook points are offset from the shank, straighten them so they are in line. And don't set the hook, or resist the fish hooking themselves in any way. It's hard not to set the hook, but letting the equipment do the job is necessary with circle hooks.
For any dead rod use, I like those soft action fiberglass downrigger spinning rods. They are long, the tip is very soft, and they are almost unbreakable. Not a bad combination for less than $50.
tape a spinning real on an old flyrod and leave the bail open, don't be in a rush, I agree with the guy to use a larger size than expected.

I have been using a 10'6" steelhead rod and it has been working great. With the circle hooks, I have been just putting the rod in the rod holder and waiting for the rod to bend. Kinda a lazy way to fish, but it works! I have yet to gut-hook a fish using circle hooks.
