Hi...
After going through different kinds of anchors, getting them stuck in the river in various cases and losing them....I finally switched to the Richter anchor. Yes the Richter anchor is more costly; but I really believe it is worth the money. I have never lost one....ok....not true....I lost one but that would be my own fault....I almost jumped in after it when I couldn't believe what I did....but luckily my friend grabbed me by the back of my shirt and I never took a dive into the river.... but man I tried to snag that rope w/ the anchor on it......needless to say it is still on the bottom of the Wisconsin River above the rapids in the Dells.....unless someone was lucky enough to snag it and pull it up....
Anyway...the reason I love using this anchor is because it absolutely never has gotten stuck for me.....With the release that is on it.....you can get it out of all sorts of nooks and crannies that lay on the bottom of the water.... and it holds in all substrates for me... I seriously have gotten anchors stuck in weird places on the rivers mainly....and you just could not get them out.... but the Richter has always worked and held well... So like I said it is a bit more costly...but when I think of the anchors I'd have lost otherwise.... it is definitely worth it.... it just hurts more when you do something stupid like I did and throw the darn anchor out in a hurry without tying it up....oops...... live and learn eh
well good fishing

Most likely there isn't "one" even in current I will use two on ocassion. With all the variables a good heavy navy without rust and a mushroom flat bottom have served me well. Now I also use 2 chenes with chain, 2 other navy's of different weights, 2 sashes,
3 driftanchors and a lot of extra chain as well as a couple of hand mades. Several swiveled snap lines 20 ft, 45ft, 100ft

Storage 2 up front "chene and navy" and one navy or mushroom in back in the transom with 6 line cleats.

Try the Pro-Anchor by Guidemasters, with this anchor only need to carry at most two anchors if you want to keep the transom from swinging. I have used every kind of anchor out there and found Pro Anchor the best yet!
