Jake,

From what i have heard fishing at Tobin has been pretty slow. I wouldn't recomend the 8 hour drive, unless this is the only chance you get to go there all year. Wait until sometime in August, Sept, or better yet October.
If you go now, try the new River Walleye Tackle rigs. They have been working very well for me. The sinkers really get the bait to the bottom quickley. Leeches have been best, 15-20 feet on the channel edge.

Good luck,

A good friend was there for a week returned home last Sun.(22nd)
He and his wife did really well, both in the river and out in the main lake.
Nothing huge, but several 8 and 9 pounders...(released).
Jigs w/ tails and half crawler.
Fished the normal breaklines, and also weedlines.

Jimbo,

I sent you a quick e-mail on what the River Walleye rigs are, to hard to explain here. They do work though!

Hey T-Mac,

Glad to here they had some success. I haven't been there in a month or so, so my report was only from what i'd heard from a bair shop there.
Did you here the changed the regs this year, so that you can't keep any between 22 and 31 inches. This means it's gonna have to be about a 12 pounder before you can keep it...which is great! Hoefully the fishery will return to it's old self.
I'll be up there for the Premier's cup August 9 and 10. Hopefully we'll get some big ones in pre-fish, but the regs in the tourney are such that none over 55CM can be weighed in. It was like that last year, i think it's great, there should be no big ones kept.
Good Fishin'

A friend of mine was up there two weeks ago and it was a bit on the slow side, but the weather was hot&sunny. There are some other lakes nearby in Manitoba which are hot and heavy now - write me if you want more info. Where are you coming from?
