In August of 2003 I made a deal with my alumacraft Dealer on a Alumacraft Navigator and a Mercury 115 Four stroke motor. My trade in was the deposit and I would pay the balance on delivery. During the discussions with the dealer I mentioned I heard there was a rebate on Alumacraft boats of $500.00. I said I would not need the boat until early spring. He said to me while we were finalising the deal "Who gets the rebate? You or us?" Naturaly I said me. In Feb. I began calling if the rig will be available for me soon as the rebate on the alumacraft will expire March 31. He assured me I will recieve the rebate. About March 15 I called again and inquried and was told I have nothing to worry about as it would not be my fault even if the rig was not ready until after March 31 (expiration of Alumacraft rebate) as they would take care of everything. At the end of March I called again and reminded them that the mercury extended warranty of 5 years expires on April 15 and again I was told it would be ready in about 10 days. I waited 11 days and no call from the dealership and called about around the 8 of April and was then told they would have it ready on April 16 and went to pick it up. About a week later I recieved my warranty card from Mercury and it was only good for 3 years and I called the dealer and said you told me I was to recieve a 5 year warranty and the woman who takes care of the scheduling said I should have gotten a 5 year warranty and I should have no problem all I would have to do if I had a problem with the motor after 3 years is tell a Mercury repair shop I was supposed to have a 5 year warranty and Mercury would stand by the warranty. I said absolutley not. I called my salesman and who assured me all the while I would recieve the $500.00 rebate from Alumacraft and the extended warranty from Mercury about the situation. He then said to me that I would not recieve the rebate or the extended warranty because he said I PURCHASED the rig in Aug. 2003. I said I PURCHASED the rig on April 16 2004. He insisted I PURCHASED the rig in Aug. 2003 and if I wanted the rebate I should have paid for the rig and took it with me in Aug. 2003. I said you should have told me that in Aug. 2003 and not now in April 2004. I feel I was mislead by the salesman as I brought up the issue of a Alumacraft rebate in Aug. 2003 and he should have explained the details of the rebate at this time as he knew I was expecting the rebate and should have told me then I have to pay in full or wait till after Jan 1, 2004 to make the deal. I found on the internet in Jan. 2004 Alumacraft rebate was from Jan. 1 till March 31 2004. Does anyone know if there was a rebate during Aug. 2003 as when I called my salesman he said I could have recieved the rebate if I paid for it in Aug. 2003. I may go to small claimes court and would appreciate any help. Dont want to mention the dealership at this time as I hope it can be resolved but I doubt it.

Did you get anything in writing on the sales agreement? If not, your probably SOL.

Skip the salesman and go to management, Keep your cool and explain the predicament to them. If you were misled or the dealership forgot to register the items on time for the promotions, hopefully they'll work with you.

Good luck to ya

Rebates are factory sales promotions with rules. Every factory promotion I ever saw plainly states a time frame with wording pertaining to "warranty registration". The only way a factory program works is if the rules are upheld. Your boat and engine warranty registration would have had to happen within a stated time frame. There are always deadlines involved.

I don't know where or why things went "south" for you, but the rules need to be understood by the salesman and the purchasing customer. Promotions, when not handled well... can cause more ill feelings than they are worth.
