One of the best smallmouth fisheries runs right thru town -- the Mississippi River.

For walleye, Mille Lacs is only a short hop away.

Wright county, nearby, is loaded with good walleye lakes --
Clearwater, Sylvia, Cedar, Sugar, Pleasant, Rice, Beebe.
A little further west are Sauk Lake, Big and Little Birch Lakes,
and off to the N/E are the Brainerd Lakes area, Mille Lacs, etc.

So many lakes, so little time -- Sigh!

The Missippi River can be very good for Eyes and smallies. If your looking for lakes within a 45 - 60 min drive from St. Cloud with excellent walleye and smallie population here is my list.

Lake Koronis 40 min SW of St. Cloud near Paynesville. Very good populations of walleye and smallies

Big Birch Lake 35 min west of St. Cloud north of Freeport.
Very good populations of walleye, smallies and panfish.

Green Lake 60 min. SW of St. Cloud near Spicer. Good populations of walleye and excellent smallies(very good trophy potential).

Mille Lacs 80 min NE of St. Cloud. Excellent populations of walleyes, good smallie and muskie. Lots of throphy potential but tough slot if you want a few eater(eyes).

All these lakes have classic structure and lots of it. Koronis and Big Birch's water get a liitle green by mid summer. Green and Mille Lacs are very clear.

Good Luck!
