I was thinking Ranger, but I've settled on a Lund 1700 Fisherman with a 150 Optimax. I really would appreciate hearing from current owners regarding props, overall performance and engine height. Any thing else would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help. Dick

I have a 2003 1700 fisherman mated up with a Yamaha so I'm not sure our motors are apples to apples so I won't comment on motors other than I use a yamaha stainless and it gives me great lift. Overall, I've been pleased with the boat ( less the paint peeling that Lund has fixed). It does sit quite high out of the water. My bow mount motor is 60" long to keep it from popping out of the water in chop. The wind does catch this boat! However, It feels safe and rides very dry in rough water; a trade-off I can live with.
I also have a T8 yamaha kicker and it's one of the best add-on's for the money. I also went with the snap-on Lund travel cover and I'm very pleased with it! I wanted a light weight boat to pull behind my 5'er trailer but worried the 1700 would be too small. It has proven to be very roomy and doesn't lack for room with three adults.
Enjoy!!!
take a real close look at the Yamaha F150, you should be around $1000 less than the Opti. i'm running the engine and am incredibly impressed and i sell both brands.
Thanks to both. I don't have a Yamaha dealer to buy from in my area and service would be to difficult. Happy Holiday

Dick,
I've got an '02 Fisherman 1700 with an '02 Suzuki DF140. Motor is mounted in the middle hole (3rd from the top) and this seems to be a common location. Most popular SS prop appears to be the Suzuki 20"SS. I get about 44-46MPH at 1000' with this prop and motor.
Overall, I'm happy with the boat. I've got two kids (ages 3 and 10) and they are comfortable in it. There is enough room for them to walk around and not get bored, even when dad is fishing for hours on end. I've also used it to pull skiers and tubes without problem. A good all around family boat that is fine for fishing.
A couple of rigging suggestions: I would consider vinyl flooring with snap-in carpet (light color) and a 60" shaft on a trolling motor if you get one. For other ideas about rigging that may be helpful, you can see pictures of my boat here:

Hope this helps,
Mike,
Does your hull ride pretty high in the water with your setup? Is the water spray toward the back of the boat? I have a 14 x 20 SS prop ordered for my DF140 and I hope it gives me more lift. Right now I kind of plow at medium speeds on plane. (3000-4000 rpms)
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
Yes it rides pretty high and the spray is near the back at WOT with the motor trimmed up. I think you will like the 20"SS -- it made a big difference in handling for me... I'm not sure what my planing RPM is, but it starts at about 10-15MPH for me.
Good luck,
Thanks Mike,
I am also trying a Suzuki Aluminum 14 x21 this weekend to use when I head up to the rocky lakes up north. My 1700 Fisherman came with a 23 pitch Hustler which is only 13 1/4 inches. I think I can do better with the Suzuki prop.
Have a nice weekend!

I have a 2004 Lund Fisherman with the Yamaha F150. With my stock 21 pitch aluminum, full tank of fuel and just me I was turning 5900 to 6000 rpm at 52 mph. Motor mounted all the way down on transom. I bought the pro series 21 pitch SS and with two to three guys, full tank of fuel and baitwell full I was running 5700 rpms and 50.7 mph at WOT. With one seat up in the bow area and the other back up on the rear deck there is plenty of room for 3 guys to fish. I have the snap out carpet and highly reccomend that. I also have the pro trak snap travel cover and have to agree that is the only way to go. I added the bow bolsters and cushions for those lazy hot summer days and a swimm ladder which comes in handy when your father in law tangles his line around your prop 3 or 4 times in the day when fishing. I went from a pro v side console to a full windshield. I am glad I did .
