filling a baitcaster

Is there a right way & wrong way to fill a baitcaster with mono? My efforts seem to leave too much slack on the spool.

Have someone hold your spool of line with a pen through the center hole. Have them put some pressure on the spool of line while you crank it on. While your cranking hold the line (other hand) with a rag soaked with blakemores line and reel magic to remove the chaulkyness of the line, to keep out the loose wraps, and you'll have better castability from the start. If you usually spool alone pick up a berkely line spooling station, you can adjust the spool tension and it also has a line stripper for around $25.
