I have a T8 Yamaha kicker motor, Power tilt, 20 inch shaft on my 1700 Lund fisherman sitting next to my 125 Merc. My question is - how do you position the kicker motor while traveling? The Yamaha manual says to trim the motor down all the way if you have ground clearence on the trailor to the ground. I have enouph clearence (probably 6 inches) but my concern is pulling out of drives (service stations etc.) where the ground looks real close to hitting the prop. Is there a transon saver on the market for this? or do I just trim the motor up for the required clearence and let the trim motor hold the motor in position? I thought about putting a block of wood between the lower uint and the motor frame but I am not sure this is smart and it may just fall out anyway.

Any help or Ideas out there? I am leaving Friday for Canada - 16 hour drive and want to make sure the motor is in good shape when I get there.

Bud,

There has been TONS of discussion, on this board, concerning the use (or not use) of transom savers. I, for one, am convinced of their usefulness and I have one on my main motor AND the kicker. I used Cabela's frame mounted saver for the kicker and it works beautifully! Here is the link to it:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod.jhtml?id=0001894&navAction=push&navCount=1&indexId=cat420011&parentId=cat420011&parentType=index&rid=&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fcatalog%2Fpod-link.jhtml_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276

I stabilize the kicker by using a bungee between the kicker and the main motor while trailering. The bungee goes from the outside of the kicker transom saver to the outside of the main motor's transom saver.

Good luck and good fishing with our Northern brethern!

Thank you for the reply. I have a frame monunted transon saver on my 125 Merc. I have a Shorelander trailer. So do you hook another transom saver to one of the rollers? I looked at the Cabelas web site that you included in the reply. I am stil a little confused on how your rig works on the kicker. By the way I too am sold on a transom savers. This is the 3rd boat I have owned, all with transom savers and I have never had a lick of trouble. I have never had a kicker motor before so this kind has me baffeled on what to do.

Just use the button on the motor that stops it from going down all the way trim it down against it and you will be fine.

Bought a swingeze transom savor today at our local Lund dealer (5 bucks cheaper then Cabelas). He showed me a spot to brace it to on the trailer. All fixed up now.

Thanks for all the advice.........this is a great web site, with people ready to help at all times!

Bud,

I was just getting ready to tell you how to hook that baby up to the frame of the trailer but I see you were able to get it done. Go and enjoy.
