What are some good rods out there for trolling with leadcore? Size, action, brands?
This rod will be teamed with a Penn 209M reel.
I use a cabelas Tourney Trail IM7 Musky rod, Heavy action, with a big Penn level wind, It will handle any crank you can muster up and you feel confident with a good fish on.

I take the opposite route as MH, as my pair of leadcore rods are long and limber. They are Berkley Power Poles, 8'6" downrigger poles ($19) with Penn 209 reels filled with 10 colors (bought both Penn's used here on WC for cheap). These are low-cost outfits, as I don't use them much. But they work well for me. You can check them out or try them out at Glendo.
I use a couple of old Cabelas Gold Label 7' heavy action rods. I've used softer action rods but to me it seems I can tell if my lure's ticking bottom easier with the stiffer rod. I also spool up a Diawa linecounter with a full spool of leadcore and then a 30' mono leader. To me the linecounter is easier than paying attention to colors and also more accurate. I use leadcore quite often, I really like it.
I purchased two Quantum rods from Fleet Farm. They are 9'Dipsey Diver Rods and pretty stiff. The down side is that they dont have a trigger. They were $30/each

I agree with Dennis, a good old cheap fiberglass 8' or 8.5' limber rod. I use 2 eagle claw Starfire trolling rods, they have held up well. You can get a good price on them at the factory just off I70. Expect to pay about $30 each. I would not call Eagle Claw high end rods but their customer service is great, I have a trailmaster pack rod with a life time warrenty that has been in about 10 times over the past 20 years, even when I broke the rod in half they fixed it free! that gets a high rating from me!

Eric,
Let's see....You caught 4 walleyes over 10 lbs. in the last month and now you need advice on lead core...you've got to be kidding me. For all I care you can use a broom stick or a snoopy rod. By the way I you Cabelas 8' trolling rods ..cost about 36.00. Hey, great fish by the way.
