i recently purchased the zercom 2000 and am having difficulty getting readings over 15mph.......i followed the instructions to a 'T' and understand that a few adjustments might be needed to fine tune it......last night on the water was spent adjusting the transducer back and forth without much luck........can someone give me a few possibilities that could solve this problem?........thanks guys

is it thru-hull or transom mounted?

Two things to consider; Either the transducer is not in the water far enough,or, the postion of the transducer is such that it is getting turbulent water flow from a strake, etc., on the hull. Try lowering the transducer first, maybe a 1/2 inch, that may do it.

Squid,
Sorry for the lateness of this post but things have been real busy around here (Techsonic Industries), also I have been unable to use my PC at home to monitor these posting boards.
If you are still having problems getting your LPG 2000 to read at over 15 MPH, send me an e-mail and I'll give you something else to try.
Best regards,

Keep adjusting up and down until you get something that works. Have someone look out the back while you are on plane to find clean (non-turbulent) water. That is where you want it. Unfortunately it is a trial and error thing. I have more holes in the back of my boat than I ever wanted, but that's what it took to get it to work.

The above posts are right on. In order for the transducer to work it must be in nonturbulent water. Another thing is to make sure that the rear of the transducer is slightly lower than the front. Your problem undoubtedly is turbulent water flow under your transducer at higher boat speeds.

OK FELLAS, i did move the speed/temp ##### near as far away from the transducer as possible.......i am now able to get a reading up to 28-30 mph.....above those speeds i lose it........can i assume that it is still the turbulence?........could it be the tilt angle from front to back?.......depth of unit in water?........thanks guys

Yes, yes, and yes. You are seeing improvement, keep playing with it.

Squid... To start with, if you haven't already, add the updated features to the graph. Can get them from the website. You can make more adjustments when running at higher speed. Also, turn the gain all the way down while running full speed. This may help some, but I think you may have to adjust your ducer some more. Mine is mounted on a tyee, and had to adjust the tilt quite a bit. I can now read up to 40 mph. To give you an idea, get down on your knees & look down at the bottom of the ducer & line it up to see where it positioned according to the bottom of the boat. Mine is pointed towards the center of the hull, somewhat more towards the rear.
Take your allen wrench with you & another person to run the boat, & make slight adjustments on the water. Tilt it just a little at a time. This should help with the readings.
Good luck & email me if you need to.

Make sure your not in line with any ribs on the bottom of the hull, your mounting posistion should be at least 12" from center of the boat , no less. I've mounted a bunch of transducers(work for dealer) and I disagree with the one gentleman's suggestion.
I always mount them with a "look ahead" angle. Meaning the front pointed down looking under the boat(just a tiny bit!!). Also I mount the transducer according to specs usually....
Except when I have one that doesn't keep bottom. Then I use what an old rigger taught me about problen transducers. 12" from centerline, no ribs, steps, or strakes in line(smooth water) 1/8" below bottom of boat, aimmed forward(look ahead)
I run a 2000 TARGA 1900 with a Merc 200EFI. I keep bottom at 58 MPH GPS with my PinPoint 7520.

The only bad thing about Techsonics website is that when you click on "Zercom" it goes to another site and you end up with a bunch of windows opening up!!!! Anyone else get this? Ray

thanks guys, i have plenty of distance from the center,am between strakes, no step to deal with and am 8 incehs away from the speed/temp............i do kick up a pretty good roster tail off my transducer at high speeds......is this any help?......and i have adjusted it lower than the recommended initial instructions.......
