I have a 219 Stratos with Evinrude 175 ficht on it. The prop on it now is a 13 1/2 x 23 Shooter. I am getting in the low 5,000's for RPM and 52-54 in MPH. What do you recommend to increase the speed and the RPM's. The marina that set up my rig did try a Raker but the top speed was only mid 40's. They also recommended the Shooter that I presently have on. Would a 25 or 19 pitch Shooter improve my speed. I thought that I should be in the low 60's with this boat. Thanks for your input Rew, tr
A couple of questions:
First, the red line on this motor is 5750.
So, with a light load and yourself in the boat, you should be shooting for a max rpm of about 5800.
If you aren't getting this much rpm, you have
a. too much drag.
b. too much boat in the water,
c. the engine mounted too low.
d. Not enough trim on the boat.
e. bad weight distribution in the boat.
f. wrong prop
g. weak motor.
A first question,
Have you ever had your dealer mount a speed wheel on the motor to verify that the motor is actually generating 175 hp at 5750 rpm.
If not, it would be a good idea to do so. It is possible, that the tuning on the motor is such that the motor is not developing its full rated power.
Having verified that the motor is really making 175 hp at the prop, at 5750 , you need to figure out why you can't get the rpm to this number.
The prop that you are running may simply be too much for the boat that you are running. This is a large boat, and has a significant amount of hull area. To maximize speed, you need to do what ever is needed to minimize drag. To minimize drag, you need to get as much of the boats hull, and motor out of the water.
To get the hull out of the water, you need to use a prop, with a significnat rake to give good bow lift.
To minimize drag, you need to mount the motor as high as possible.
If possible, mount the motor on a 6-10 inch setback jack shaft.
Also, if possible, install a water pressure gauge; and if you find that you lose water pressure, when you lift the motor, you will need to install a low water pickup in the motor.
I haven't rigged this particular combination, so I can't give too muc prop recommendations.
The one thing that I do notice, that for this rig, it seems to me that you are running a prop that is too small in diameter. I would think that you should be running a prop with at least a 14 inch diameter, and possibly a 14 1/4 or 14 1/2 inch in diameter.
Then, to pull the prop, you are going to have to continue to back off on pitch, untill you get the rpms to the desired 5750.
--
I expect that you might be faced with several problems.
Possible motor height.
Possible need for a jack plate.
Possible trim situation.
Possible detuned motor resulting in less than 175 hp at 5750 rpm.
Possibly a different prop with a larger diameter and a lower pitch.
Take care

i sold my 219 stratos w/ 175 ficht last year, had a 22" raker and ran low 60's mph when trimmed out.( chine walking would start about61 mph) i remember the rpm's were maxxed out at wot (i forget, 5600 or 5800?) i'd still hit 60mph with two of us and gear and 1/2 tank of gas. hope this helps you. good fishin mike
Thanks guys for the response, this gives me something to look for. tr

For that size/weight hull and a 175 you are overpitched. A 19 pitch is usually the corrrect size prop for that type of rig ( 21 pitch may still be ok if you travel with a very light load)
