I have been having a problem with CARPenter ants swarming in the middle of my garage. I sprayed the area with Ortho Home Defence. A week later about 100 of these little guys swarm in the left corner, middle of the garage . I turn the lights on and they freek out. I spary them as fast as I can. Anyone know whats happening?? Are they trying to get away from the heat? Or is there a nest just below the concrete (I thought they nest in wood) That Ortho didn't stop them after a week, they are in the same place as sprayed. I have a 2 year old otherwise I would pestiside the whole area.

They could be using the subterrean root work of a near by tree or stump buried under your slab. "Combat" and lots of it is slow but it works under the theory that the ants not understanding its poison carrying it back to the nest as a food source eventually building up enough to kill the queen. Small round traps 4 to a pack, buy several pks camoflauge the traps from your little person with heavy clutter, cinder block, tire rim etc, you should see the results within about a month or two and for sure next summer. Right now their leaving to form another colony, should make for some good fly fishing down wind of your sandy areas and garage unfortunately, aah yellow popper with dark brown or black hairs, and gills.

Anywhere you see them pour a teaspoon of Diazinon(probably not spelled right)crystals amongst them and eventually they'll carry it back to the nest and then it's dirt-nap time for them...all of them. It has always worked for any ant issue I have had.
Good luck!

They are very destctive do something right away because I had them eat the sill out of my garage in 1 year and had to replace.
Diazinon works great do it now don't wait.

My father in-law said these are not CARPenter ants. He said they are bigger then the ones I have. Mine are about 1/4 inch long and black. He said the CARP kind are about 3/8 to 3/8 +inch long. I may have a couple 3/8 but no bigger. Maybe I have a brewd of midgets CARPenter ants. I sprayed along my garage door tonight. Those guys where starting to form a gang outside before sunset.

These ants do not have that claw mouth. So these are not carpenter ants are they????????? Last night these guys where climbing a mid sized tree just left of my garage. We are talking hunderds of these little guys. A path from the garage to the tree. There are no dead limbs on this tree it is still a young and vibrant maple.

Carpenter ants dont bother dry wood. they nest in wet or wet/rotten wood. If your roof, wall studs and sill plate are all dry, they wont ruin your garsge. Thet nest in wet wood they dont eat it. So if you have any wet wood replace it or get rid of it and the ants will go away.

Those little black one also bore and nest in wood. Though not as quick as the larger ones. Spray them now and then work the combat into them. You might also try this, crush a sugar cube or two and around 11am as the sun gets up during dry weather. Put small pieces the workers can carry. Watch where they go with these pieces. Mother nature requires they store this food. You jusy might find that they carry it to the nearest tree!
