I use the rubber bobber stops sold by cabelas, they slip onto your line, they have worked for both bobbers and slip sinkers for me. They come in packs of 10 in different pound tests, (i use the 4-8 lb 99% of the time). They come on a peice of wire with a loop on the end, you slide your line a few inches through the loop and slide the bobber stop on to your line, bringing the tag end through. They last forever (or until your line breaks) and are very easily adjusted with a little bit of saliva on the line. Hope this helps, MarbleEye's

The little plastic dog-done type seem to work best for me, but I have concerns even about those -- specifically, I don't like the twist you get when you adjust to a different depth.

Perhaps here's an area when some enterprising type might design a better mouse trap, or in this case, float stop.
