I got this reel from Cabelas because it's lighter than my Diawa 27's for longlining. I've had nothing but problems with it. Seen Zebco 202's that worked better. Just sent it back to be fixed or replaced but I really don't care if I ever see it again. Did I just get a bad one or are these reels just that poorly made?

Bought four returned four now I have all Diawa's no problems after three years on Erie. the SG47 hold ten colors 15lb lead and the SG27 are great for long lining....

If it is the depth masters they are junk! Get your $ back and stay with Diawa.

Sad to admitt that I bought some to save some money instead of buying more SG27's. I should have figured when it was buy three and get one free, they're junk!

I have to say the contrary. I like to use fire line when using line counters for pulling cranks and I have a Cabela's D20W DepthMaster and a SG47. I cannot set the drag on the SG47 low enough to keep the eyes' from getting knocked off occasionally without adding monofilament also.

The DepthMaster has worked smooth and flawless for me. Keep in mind however that I do not have the digital model. I do understand they are not very good. Not to say the Diawa is not a good reel, It has just gotten loose on its own, I always have to tighten the spool tension thumbscrew or it will fall off and the drag is either too tight or inconsistent.

I prefer my DepthMaster D20W over my Diawa; however, I like them both for certain things...

I bought Cabela's linecounter combos a few years ago. Only used it a few times before I switched to Diawa 27LC setups. If anyone's interested I'd sell my combo. Dennis@Climbing-Guides.com
