Noticed yesterday that there are two bolts pretty loose on my lower unit. They seem to be a mount. Check out this diagram: http://www.paulsonsoft.com/diag/3732/?block_number=130 It's the assembly with bolt #24 thru nut #28. Is there supposed to be slack in that assembly before I start taking things apart or cancel todays trip?

I know mods, this is supposed to be in boats-motors, but I don't have time to wait on that board. Need an answer today! Feel free to zap it after I get an answer.

2002 Mercury 50 2-stroke. I took the cover off and tightened down the assembly. After looking at it, I'm sure it's supposed to be snug. A couple of stumps and a log probably gave the rubber bushing a little smash. Probably explains all the vibrations I get at trolling speed. I'll find out here shortly.

That is one of two lower motor mounts. They are tightened to a specific torque value. 9 on a v6 Merc I know it is 50 ft lbs--dont know on other size motors)

It should be at least snug, the rubber motor mount should be compressed slightly.

Thanks. Tightened it down and lost all kinds of vibrations, especially the shaking at trolling speed.

I would think all bolts should be tight to some extent anyway.
