When I backtroll or back off the trailer and the splashwell fills with water, the hatch cover in the splashwell continues to leak into the bilge. I've siliconed the outer rim, but the leak seems to be in the door itself. Does anyone have any suggestions short of permanently sealing the thing on how to make it watertight? The pumps can keep up fine, but it's a minor annoyance and could be more so when freezing temps arrive in the fall. I will say, though that the integrated setback on this boat acts like a "bow on the stern." This boat has better control and tracking when I backtroll than any boat I've ever been in. Thanks in advance for your responses.

have the same problem as you, what i did was to remove the hatch lay a bead of silcone, and reinstall the hatch backwards, so the door opens to the motor not the boat. only problem is if you do not have remote oil fill, if will have to be done in the boat.

Jon,
If you like to backtroll I suggest putting on a set of Wave Wackers, they work assume! As far as back trolling a Ranger I couldn't agree more they track better than any boat I have ever owned. Check em out you will be pleased. If you like I can send you a picture of my old 619 with them on it, I don't have a good close picture of my 620 at this time. Hope that helps.

Joe, I'd appreciate seeing how you rigged the wave wackers on your old 619. The only set up I've seen on a 619 or 620 is the long straight plexiglass shield that runs across the beam near the livewell. Thanks in advance. If you'd like to email the picture, I'm at bethandtodd@msn.com.

Juls, Thanks for the advice. I will try the backwards hatch trick. as I can see how that would be better if not ideal. I've got the remote oil fill, but I like to be able to see the level when I top off the tank so rather than seal it I'll try this. Thanks again for digging through the archives and responding.

Here is a link that shows pictures of Rick Gardners 620 ranger boat with Whitecap splashguards on them. If you have the optional rails on the beam that runs across the guards wont be able to mount there, otherwise they keep most of the water out.

Joe do you think i too could look at your pics. We just got done with a tourney and realized how important backtrolling is to us and can't seem to do it in the wind.It would be greatly appreciated. I don't whether the splash guards in the way back are better or the ones that go on top by the livewell. Either way i need something. thanks in advance. ladiesmanjdw@hotmail.com
