The USFA Oconto tournament on Green Bay this past weekend produced a winning weight of almost 64 lb for 8 fish which is an 8 lb per fish average. Does anyone know the highest average weights produced in tournaments on Lake Erie, Saginaw Bay, etc. and how this weight from Green Bay compares?

Fort Peck is pretty notorious for great one-day tournament catches, but putting two days back-to-back appears to be just about impossible.
In 2000, Bob Magnuson and Carlo Swenson set the one-day record with 48.51 pounds for five walleyes -- better than a nine-pound average -- but added only 15.79 pounds to it the second day for a 64.30 total for 10 walleyes.
But in terms of averages -- and great one-day results -- you can't beat Dan Majeske at ##### Creek two weekends ago. He zeroed the first day of the tournament, then weighed in 38.99 pounds for just four walleyes the second -- darn near a 10-pound average. He went from tied-for-last to second place in the tournament.
In the 2000 Governor's Cup, Casper, Wyo., fishermen Mitch Horning and John Marohn had a 43.56-pound one-day catch on the final day for five walleyes -- also better than an eight-pound average -- good enough to vault them into third place in the final standings.
These are the type of catches that give fishermen hope that they can bounce back from bad days -- no matter how poorly they start out in a tournament. But as to getting an eight-pound average for two days? Nope, you'll find no challengers in Montana. You boys in Wisconsin are still the champs. -- mark

Go to www.in-fisherman.com and search for the all time PWT records. The PWT has had some huge weights over the years, mostly at Erie. That's a great weight but not the all-time best.
