Does anyone out there know where I could pick up a good used lower unit for a 1999 15 hp Merc 4 stroke. Mine shelled out and was stagged by the cost of a new one. Thought maybe someone would have a shelled motor with a good lower end.

Can I ask you what happened? AS to trying to find one check E-Bay sometimes you can find the complete motor at a fair price. good luck

Not sure what happened but the gears are all wore so bad there is almost 1 inch of play in the prop shaft. Never hit anything and always change gease so can't figure out what could have caused it to go. Even had some wear on the housing so might as well chane out the whole unit. What blew my mind was 2 shops told me a new unit cost 2200 dollars and I can buy a new motor without controls for 2150. Guess that speaks for itself unless I run accross a goog lower unit reasonable. Probably will have a good top half if anyone is looking for one.

Thanks for the info and I will give him a call. Will have to find out the year then talk with mech. here to see if they will match. Have called all over the country and have'nt located one yet. Used lower units for newer 15s are rare.
