I am looking for a GPS, but have questions about the maps/software that are available. I fish the Crane Lake, Sand Point, Namakan areas of Northern MN and have doubts that any unit or maps would be useful. I think a person could buy the best GPS there is, but if there is no good mapping software for your area it would be fruitless. Has anyone used a GPS in the area I fish, and was it worthwhile? How is a GPS usefull when fishing, and how do you use it? After spending a lot of time looking and investigating I'm getting a little frustrated.

I thought you already asked this and got quite a few comments on how it can help your fishing.

Unless it was asked by someone else. If so I apologize.

Mapsource Road and Recreation names lots of Islands on those lakes. Especially Kab.

Terrick, I've provided a link below to Garmin Rec Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots. If you click on the box on the right hand side of the page, labled Mapsource viewer, you can drill down to exactly what our map looks like for the lakes you want. Even though we may not have the FHS map for Crane, we'll give you an enhanced, geo-referenced map to use. This will at least eliminate the GPS showing your position on land as it may with just a base map. After you've fished for a weekend, save your tracks and waypoints back onto your PC. All of Garmin's hand held and fixed mount mapping units can do this so please check them out. Thanks
