My new 1700 Fisherman that was ordered with Sea Star came from Lund with a Bay Star steering. I have a 150 Optimax and no experience with this size engine or the steering. I said I'd try it and see what happens. Bay Star is not the application for this setup. Anyone got a name I can call at Lund if I need to? If I switch do I want Sea Star or Sea Star Pro? It seems Sea Star would be the way to go. Thanks.

...its cylinder is smaller bore than the Sea Star. I'm running a 150 Opti on a Starcraft 176SC with Sea Star. As far as I'm concerned, even the Sea Star is a bit sloppier than the old dual cable Merc Ride Guide in my previous rig. My rig is usually run light and tops out on a perfect day (60 degrees temp., 4-6 inch chop) at 61 mph gps with a modified tempest prop. I pick up chine walk at 58 mph and it's very difficult to steer through this with the Sea Star. They now offer a better cylinder for the Sea Star for high performance use, but it costs an arm amd a leg. Bottom line is that I personally consider the Bay Star as dangerous on a 150 hp engine, the Sea Star as marginal. The good side of this is that the Sea Star steers like a dream below 58 mph on my rig. Quoting from my Overton's catalog at the Bay Star ad- "for Mercury Optimax 150 DFI, use Sea Star Hydraulic System". I think this is pretty straight forward, and I assume it comes from the manufacturer. If you ever have an accident, rest assured your insurance agent will have this catalog in hand....

O-F ,CALL TELEFLEX DIRECT. 604 270 6899 XT. 276 THATS A GUY NAMED ALs EXT. HE WILL TELL YOU IF YOUR BAYSTAR IS SAFE ON A 150.
I'M PRETTY SURE STAYLOR IS CORRECT THOUGH ,YOU SHOULD RUNNING A SEA STAR SYSTEM. I THINK THE SEASTAR OPERATES AT HIGHER PRESSURE THAN THE BAY STAR ,1000PSI VS 1500PSI FOR THE SEA STAR. THE SEA STAR ALSO COMES WITH KEVLAR HIGH PRESS. HOSES.

They have changed the wording. Now Tele-flex is saying Bay Star is fine up to and including 150 horspower. (period....no disclaimers).
You can call Tele-flex, as suggested, they will confirm the wording change.
Personally, I like Sea Star, but have no experience with Bay-Star...except for what I have read here on Walleye Central.
