Just wondering if anyone owns a Sylvan Sport Troller?

I am looking at buying my first boat. This one seems as if it will fit my needs. My parents have bought a cottage in Canada and I plan on spending most of the summer there. I would like to spend approx $5,000 on a new used boat. Would like to get a 16 footer with tiller. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I looked at a Sport Troller before I eventually decided on a Lund 16 Rebel Tiller. The Sylvan was a fine boat and all but where I was looking, the prices were the same and the Lund was obviously a MUCH better boat quality wise. Hull, carpet, hatches, everything. I also liked the rod locker and live well better, plus it had more storage.

However, my guess would be, you could probably buy a used Sport Troller for less than a used Lund Rebel of the same model year. I have my 2000 model year Rebel for sale right now and I know a guy who just sold his 1999 Sport Troller with similar HP for considerably less than what I'm asking for my boat. Although his 30 HP motor was a 2 stroke and mines a 4 stroke.

If you've never owned a boat before, you might want to consider going to a lower price range. I owned several $1,000 to $2,000 boats, trying to figure out what I liked in a boat, before I finally bought my Rebel new. Now I've just moved up to a larger new Lund. If your interested in going higher than $5,000, I've got a great boat for sale that is fully equipped and looks like new.

Good Luck!

I used to have a 14 ft. Sylvan Sport Troller. Bought it used for $2K and sold it 5 years later for the same. I thought it was a decent boat. The only reason I sold it was to move up to a bigger boat. Two years ago I went with another Sylvan, this time a 16 ft. Expedition. I love this boat. I think Sylvan has a good product and it's better priced than the Lunds.

i am currently running this boat. it is an older model(88) and have had it for a few years now. i am very pleased with it. it is the 14' and i have a 40 h.p. johnson on it. it really flys!!! It is a very sound product. I would by another one in a heartbeat. The rod loecker i find i don't care for however. i use long rods 7'+ and they don't fit in there the best. The livewell has enough room for a few walleyes and panfish, pleased there. storage under the hatch is nice. overall a great boat. yes, maybe quality may not be as good as some of the others out there, but it floats, no leaks, i beat on it pretty hard and have had no problems with it. i am very happy and would recommed it to anyone.
