View Full Version : Abiquiu Reservoir New Mexico
Anyone heard of this place? I have a flatland buddy who now resides in Albuquerque and is going to head up to this reservoir to look for some walleyes. Anyone familiar with it? Care to share any info? Even with some info I have a pretty good idea that the walleyes will be safe, but I'd like to feed him some info nonetheless. Thanks in advance.

I remember reading about it in In-Fisherman. It is in the mountains of Northen New mexico, not for from Colorado. It is supposed to be a sleeper, with big eye's. They probably got big eating trout?

I fished it 3 weeks ago and caught several 16-20 in walleye. Most folks down here like bassin so the walleye go untouched. I have heard of several 8lber's taken out of this reservoir but have yet to pull one out myself.
Look for water temps to be in the upper 70's to low 80's. When I fished it the lake was down about 15ft. I have heard this reservoir gets extremely low in Aug so don't know what condition it is in currently. We have been receiving alot of moisture but the farmers have priority over the fish.
I like to start out trolling with wally divers, shad raps et. in the main lake heading north from the ramp in about 15-20ft of water. Another option is slow trolling worm harnesses and spinners along the edge's of submerged juniper trees. It usually is to ##### hot to move really slow during mid day, so that is why I like to crank it.
Watch out for those chili peppers!
