Have a Bottom Line Tournament Master HR purchased with a used boat. The display is dark and will not brighten or improve with contrast adjustment. Also the light function is very dim and really non-functional at night. Sent it back to Bottom Line and they said it was fine and that is the way the unit is. This I find hard to swallow. Anyone using this model and is it functioning well for you? If it is then just what in the world might be wrong with mine? Would appreciate any help and/or insight into this mess. The unit is a 1997 model.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Tournament Champion HR, also bought used. The backlight is fairly poor, adequate for nighttime but hard to see at twilight conditions. I had trouble with the display fading out when the temperature outside got warm, so I sent it back and they replaced the display. It's still got marginal backlighting, but the contrast can be adjusted anywhere from a totally dark screen to totally light. The only complaint is that it still needs to be periodically adjusted throughout the day.

I bought one through the trade up program. Put on the boat and first time out I had the same problems, called Bottom Line and they said it was normal, so I sent it back and they gave my money back and I bought the NCC 5300. Works get - multilevel backlighting, and the contrast you only have to ajust once.

Sounds like you just need to adjust the contrast. When you first turn it on and you see the first screen, turn the knob to adjust the contrast. The light on those things is kinda weird, and it can be a little difficult to see right at dusk and dawn, but at night it looks pretty good. I too had one that would get darker when the thing was in the hot sun, I sent it back and they replaced it. Never had a problem since. I've had many of them and I really like the units. Hope you get this problem worked out.
