I picked up some of the "walleye Gap" green colored hooks made by Vanadium. I love the green Gamagatsku hooks and these looked the same except, the hook was closed more so the fish wouldn't feel them. Made sense to me so i tried them out on Mill Acs. My findings were that i lost a lot of fish. The ones i did get into the net i found that the hook wasn't puncturing through the lip, rather the hook was running parallel with the skin, usually on the roof of the mouth. Kind of like a sliver runs down your finger. Hard to explain, but basically it wasnt puncturing the skin it was running with the skin. Has anyone else tried these hooks? I would like to use these when the walleys are in their finicky moods, since it is less likely they will be "spit out" due to the fact the fish may not feel them as easily when your giving them line. Would feeding my line through the top of the hole as opposed to going up through the hole, when tying my line, keep the tip up a little more? Or is "Walleye Gap" just a gimmeck?

I had a few like yours and also quite a few of the Gamakatsu in the same style. I ran out of the regular octopus just before a tournament, so I used the "wide gap" style instead on my harnesses and smile rigs. What a mistake. I have never missed so many fish in my life, and quite a few of the ones that did make the net, came off in the net. Those hooks cost me enough fish to finish just out of the money, so that is the last time I'll use them.
