View Full Version : Garmin 240
I'm interested in the Garmin 240 fishifinder and would like some input. Is this unit easy to operate? I know it sells for around $360 with temp and speed. Does it come with a swivel mount? Does it show arcs or little fishes? I understand arcs are better, is this true? I'm kind of new at this game so need your thoughts. Thanks for your help and I hope you all have a great summer on the water. Judo

I have a 240,the mount it comes with does not swivel you will need a Ram.It shows arcs or fish wich ever you want. Its real ezey to use yet the scroll speed is a bit slow.My next locator will be a Lorance, watch your prices for a little more I think you too could own one.

If you use the "search" feature on this site you will find more then enough information on many types of locators. Well worth the effort.

Very easy to use, and shows nice detail. Does not come with swivel base. Unit seems to have good seperation. Speedometer is rather lame because you have to calibrate it. I had a transducer go bad and it was replaced immediately. Shop around, $360 is too much. Is this as good as Lowrance X-85? Probably not. Refresh rate is too slow. But then again it is $150 less. It is a tough decision. I paid 339 and got the tournament rebate of $25. Look at Raytheon units too. As far as fish icons, I believe a unit will mark lots of thing as fish when they are not. In non-fish-icon mode, the units don't show arches, they show a true echo return. Fish are generally arches, if they are still. If they are moving they distort and stretch. They also blend with weeds. You need to interpret the signal. I like to call fish icon mode "Clinton Mode". It tells you what you want to hear.

I just bought a Garmin from 3 Rivers (see post)
I usually don't participate in these but the extra length they went to for me to get it and the follow up was amazing... they really responded. I'm still new to Garmin (not a sponsor). My main objective is to say Three Rivers Marine is the place to buy one if you are looking for one.
Ask for Clint.
They proved it to me.
