I would like to start tournament fishing, but unfortunately I fish from a runabout style family boat(my wife won the battle of the boats), and I was just wondering if there are other people that fish tourneys with boats like this or will I be embarrassing myself. I'm kind of stuck fishin' from this rig until I can convince her that the nicely carpeted floor of a $20,000 quality fishing rig is just as comfortable as a sprawling cushioned sundeck. :( Thanks

My son went through the same thing, he wound up with a run about, and I old him he would be sorry. That all changed when he bought an auto pilot that was big enough to manuver his boat.then he added a board set up in the back for trolling, which is very easy to remove, and rod holders with mounts that dont obstruct anything while they are not being used.It sure was nice fishing in that rig, with the bimmini top, while the rain was coming down, and we were dry inside freeling shiners.yes for a couple hundred bucks more it can be used for any kind of fishing.
Cambo,
If your just getting into local tournament fishing dont run out and spend $20,000 just to look good! Instead make the boat your fishing out of as fishable as possible and use it for a year or so while deciding what u really want. You could check out alot of other peoples rigs in your club while deciding what is best 4 you.You could probaly even fish out of a few to see if they meet your fishing style.Buying a new boat is a big decision, take your time and check out as many different ones as possible.Good Luck,Kdog

There are always anglers with boats like your that fish the Masters Walleye circuit, not a lot but you wouldn't be alone with a smaller rig. Since the key to good fishing is frequently boat control, as long as you've outfitted your boat with that in mind you have as good a chance as anyone to do well.
There are still some opening in MWC tournaments. Check out the MWC web site (masterswalleye.org) hosted by Walleye Central.

I fish the Team walleye in N.Y. and I use a old61 Starcraft runabout I do O.K. but it is all I have right now. There are several small changes you could make to make it more fishable and not loose your looks. I believe the board mentioned uses eagle feet very easy to adjust and use.A live well and speed indicator help ,as do rod holders for both running and fishing. You are far from alone and better off than many.
I have an old boat (96), thats like my old chevy with a 90hp Force outboard, it works, I wish I had a 225 merc. and a 9.9 kicker on it, and a Minn Kota 101 lb thrust troll motor, but I don't, I fish Team Walleye in Michigan, I know my limitations and work with it, I don't run 12 miles, because I know I'm wasting time, I fish close, and fish smart (the key) and basically just have a good time,
Go get some fish no matter what boat your in.
Good Fishin

YOU DONY NEED TO BUY EVERYTHING AY FIRST. JUST LIKE SOME HAVE SAID YOU CAN FISH WITH WHAT EVER YOU HAVE.IVE FISHED TOURNMENTS FOR 8 YEARS.I FISH IN MINNESOTA ON LAKE PEPIN.I FISH WORLD WALLEYE,TEAM WALLEYE,LOCAL TOURNYS AND ONE PWT A YEAR.BUT LETS NOT LOSE THE PICTURE HERE .ITS WHO HAS THE FISH AT THE END OF THE DAY.BOTTOM LINE FISH DONT LOOK AT A BOAT TO SEE IF THERE GOING TO BITE.AS SOME OF THE OTHERS SAID BOAT CONTROL IS KEY.LOOKS ARE FOR ALL THE OTHER FISHERMAN.I JUST BOUGHT A NEM BOAT BUT I SHOPPED AND FISHED IN ALOT OF BOATS .TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH WHEN I FISHED WITH THE PWT .I GOT TO LOOK AT WHAT I WANT AND STUFF I DIDNT.THE BEST ADVISE I CAN GIVE YOU IS FIRST FISH WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. THEN UPGRADE YOURSELF.I GOT MY WIFE TO RIDE IN SOME BOATS AND THAT IN ITS SELF GOT ME MY FIRST BOAT .AND NOW I FINALLY GOT MY BOAT OF A LIFE TIME.IT A RANGER!
