View Full Version : New Lure
I have invented a new fishing lure. It works great for many species. It is just a rough prototype though and would work better if refined.
Has anyone ever developed a lure to market? I have been contacting manufacturers to see if they were interested in making it but haven't had much luck.
If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it?

Hey JW, Check out the archive. Peluso had a post about a new idea for a minnow bucket and he was asking about patent/marketing ideas. There was quite the discussion about it going on about what to do and what to avoid doing. It was about a month back or so. Hope this helps, Chris

Don't spend a bunch on money on those tv patent ads. there is almost no way to protect your ideas, especially in the lure business. Getting a new lure to market is difficult at best. contact some of the manufacturers and try to get them to take it from prototype to production and pay you a royalty. Don't try to start your own lure co. Good Luck
JW- the patent process is not as intimidating as many will lead to believe. I can put you in touch with a very good patent attorney with a great deal
of lure experience. Leave me your email addr.
There are a wide array of patented fishing lure concepts out there, you may be surprised to find the someone else beat you to the punch.
The hard part is investing your own time and money
into the idea to bring it from drawing board to market cost effectively. You MUST get COP low
and quality high. The real hard part is marketing. The industry is very 'old school' and has a tendency to shun new gadgets and gizmos. But, I've done it before and plan to do it again -so it can be done. A good web presence will help you to start sales.
If it works - it will sell.
I would like to know more about it.
