As a summary, from memory, and some personal observations, the garmins are more user friendly, and easy on batteries....more grumbling here about running the other brands...the Garmin 12 at around $140 is a lot of machine for the money...noticed the low end Garmin in a KMart ad for close to 109 lately too--too new to know on that one...Good Luck.

I have a Garman 12 and like it very much. The battery drain is minimal and the performance is great. Like Rice Burner said. it is very user friendly. Try it, you'll like it. LOL

I have to play the devil's advocate - I have a 315 (two years) and yes it does have a learning curve. It works great, I plug it into 12v in the boat to save batteries (I get 16-18 hrs per pair of AA's), and it has treated me well. It was cheap, $200cdn. Accuracy is as good as all others. works well in the bush.

Once you learn the menu's, you can tailor it to your liking. I find I only use two maybe three screens.

I'll be back at Cedar lake on the 8th for a few days if you want to see it in action!!!

Have a 315 I'll sell for under a 100.... Never used the Garmin other than at a store. Tok about 10 minutes to figure out the 315 - but it wasn't my 1st gps.

Now have a 330 - wanted maps a waas..

315 is a good little unit.
