SA is: Selective availability, or the scrambling of the signal, by the U.S. Government. Should mean greater accuracy, when it is removed.

This is great news! Accuracy will go from the 100 meters to the 10 to 20 meters, a huge improvement! Now GPS will really be able to mark a spot, at least darn close to it. Before it just got you in the general area. The U.S. military still has the option and the capability to "jam" any area of the globe they may need to, in case of war, etc. We should be glad for that ability.

My question is, What will happen to the waypoints I have in my Garmin 48? Will they show the "new" point or will I have to revisit them and re-enter?

Does that mean the shifting when in a standstill will no longer occur?

Shifting of position, while sitting still should be much less. With s/a we had a 100 meter shift. Without s/a the shift should be equal to or less than 10 meters. S/A is a built in error in the GPS system that was to make it harder for Foreign Nations to drop a missle on us in a specific spot..
Hope this helps

Waypoints from a chart shouldn't be affected...
waypoints you put in by marking a spot should be checked...but in any event shouldn't be very far off.
